12. Removing the splined pinion drive gear exposes the
snap ring. Remove it using a snap ring pliers.
13. Remove the pinon gear from the housing using a
puller or by tapping the pinion out with a hammer and
brass punch. Inspect the pinion gear for abnormal
wear, broken, or chipped teeth. Spin the bearing and
check for smoothness. Replace if required.
14. Inspect the york shaft splines, gear and bearings for
wear or damage. If gear or bearing replacement is
required, use a press to remove the gear and
bearing at the same time. Use a cross pin to keep
the shaft from falling through the fixture.
15. Remove remaining seals from the gearcase.
