BUTTON TO TOWER CLEARANCE
INSPECTION
1. Inspect for any clearance between spider button to
tower. If clearance exists, replace all buttons and
inspect surface of towers.
Button to Tower Clearance:
.000-.012”
2. Inspect sheave surfaces. Replace the entire clutch if
worn, damaged or cracked.

1. Rotate the clutch bearing in both clockwise and
counter-clockwise directions.
The one-way bearing should only rotate in one
direction with only a slight amount of drag. When the
bearing is in the lock position it should lock onto the
shaft without slipping.
2. Verify there is no binding or rough spots. Verify that
there is no pitting or unusual wear on the bearing. If
any wear concerns are present replace the bearing.
Also pay close attention to the orientation of the inner
race when bearing is removed.
The inner race of the one-way bearing has a bearing
on one end

and a bushing on the other

. While
the clutch is in the holder with the spider removed,
install the one-way bearing with the bearing end
q
facing up, and the bushing end
w
facing down, as
shown.
