Engine Assembly -- All Engines
20. V erify that O--ring grooves in cylinders are clean.
Inspect surfaces of cylinder and cylinder head for nicks
or scratches.
21. Lightly oil new cylinder head O--rings and install in
grooves. Be sure O--ring is properly positioned and
groove is clean and free from debris.
22. Install cylinder heads and cylinder head support rings.
Torque to specifications.
NOTE: Cylinder heads must be positioned correctly with
the wide opening toward the intake and the small opening
toward the exhaust. The exhaust side will be labeled: “EX”.
23. Install new cylinder head cover O--rings in covers.
Lightly grease each O--ring. (Carbureted models.)
24. On DIt models, verify that restrictor plates are intact
and not loose.
25. Install covers with water outlet rail outlets on exhaust
side of engine.
26. Temporarily install the water outlet manifold.

DIt Cylinder Head Bolt Torque
20ft.lbs. (27Nm)
