Commun icatio n Problems -- Error Screen
The EMM must be powered up for communication
to occur. This means the battery must be charged and
connected. The stop switch lanyard must also be
connected. The Main Menu screen will be displayed
when the laptop and EMM establish communication.
If the program locates and opens the selected com port
but cannot communicate with the EMM for any reason,
it will display the screen shown in illustration at right.
The software will not advance beyond this screen until
communication can be established between the laptop
computer and the EMM.
If you see this screen, make sure the:
S tether cord is plugged into stop switch
S the DIt EMM Service Power Connector is installed
S battery cables are clean and tight
S battery voltage is at least 12.4 volts
S electrical connections are clean and tight
S circuit breaker is not tripped
S communication cable is attached to the laptop and to the diagnostic connector of the engine wiring
harness
S com port number you entered, when starting or configuring the program, is connected to the commu-
nication cable
This screen will also be displayed if the laptop momentarily loses communication with the EMM. If this happens,
allow a few seconds for the communication to re-establish.
Communication Problems -- Using the Boot Disk
NOTE: The following procedures should only be used when you are unable to establish communication between
the laptop and EMM and you have performed the above--mentioned trouble--shooting procedures.
The Polaris diagnostic software, PN 2874118, has the ability to start the laptop in diagnostic mode without starting
the laptop’s operating system. To perform the boot function, follow these procedures.
1. If the laptop is on, turn it off.
2. With the laptop off, insert the diagnostic software disk into the floppy drive.
3. T urn on the laptop. The diagnostic program will automatically begin.
4. Follow normal procedures when finished with the diagnostic session.
Communication Problems -- Faulty LR Module
Some communication problems have been found to be caused by a improperly working LR module. To test for
a faulty LR module, disconnect it from the wiring harness and replace with a known, working LR module. With
the new LR module installed, re--attempt communication with the EMM.
The computer is having trouble communicating with
the engine EMM.
Please check the following:
S Tether cord is connected to stop switch
S EMM service power connector is installed
S Battery connections are clean and tight
S Battery is charged
S All fuses and relays are good
S EMM electrical connections are clean and tight
S Communication cable connections are clean and
tight
COMMUNICATION WILL CONTINUE
WHEN CONNECTION IS CORRECTED
