Communication Problems -- Starting Diagnostic Program From DOS
NOTE: The following procedures should only be used when you have been unable to establish communication
between the laptop and EMM AND you have attempted the boot disk procedure. Additionally, this procedure will
not work on laptops using the Microsoft MEt desktop operating system.
The Polaris diagnostic software program, PN 2874118, is a DOS--based program. Since the program is DOS--
based, you can access the software through the DOS command screen. To perform this procedure, follow these
steps.
1. Click on the START button in the lower, left--hand corner of the desktop screen.
2. Click on the SHUDOWN tab.
3. Then, click on the “RESTART IN MSDOS MODE.
The laptop will now shutdown the operating system and restart in DOS mode. Once in the DOS mode follow these
procedures.
1. In DOS, there will be a flashing underscore line next to C:\WINDOWS>. Type: cd.. and then push the enter
button.
2. The command prompt will now read: c:\>. Type: podiag and press enter . The diagnostic program should now
startup.
NOTE: If you originally downloaded the diagnostic software onto a drive other than the C drive. You will need
to type the letter of the drive followed by the semicolon and press enter . Once you have entered the correct drive,
you can type: podiag and press enter.
Communication Problems -- Laptop Configurations
Please remember that many communication problems may be a result of many non--Polaris DIt factors. Factors
such as operating system, laptop manufacture, laptop configurations, laptop software and hardware, etc. may
cause problems with establishing communication between the laptop and the EMM.
Polaris recommends that if you attempt all of the communication procedures outlined in this service manual with-
out success, you then contact the manufacture of your laptop for further assistance. Often times, the manufacture
of the laptop will have software patches or hardware updates that will allow your laptop to establish communica-
tion.
Communication Problems -- Diagnostic Cable
Always check the diagnostic cable for continuity if communication problems are occurring. Reference the dia-
gram below.
