STARTING AND OPERATING
NEW CAR "BREAK-IN" PERIOD
You can drive your new
car
from its very first mile/kilometre without
following a formal
"breakcin" schedule. However, there are things you
can do during the first
few
hundred miles/kilometres
of
driving
that
will
add to
the
future performance and economy of your car.
We
. recommend you limit
your
speed during the first 500 miles (800
kilometres) to a maximum of 55 mph (90
km/h);
but do not drive for
long periods
at
any one constant speed, either fast or slow. During this
time, avoid full throttle starts and,
if
possible, avoid hard stops especially
during the first
200 miles (320 kilometre,s) of driving.
Always drive
atmodetate
speed until the engine has completely warmed
up.
If
you plan to use your new
car
for trailer towing, see additional
information under
"Trailer
Towing" inSection I.
