I. This
car,has
a
12
volt ,
battery
and a .negative ground electrical
system. Make
sure
that
the
other vehicle also has a
12
volt battery
and
that
the negative terminal
is
grounded (attached to a metal
part
of
. the vehicle).
Its
owner's manual
may
give you
that
information.
If
unsure
of
the other,vehicle's voltage (or if the voltage
.
and
ground on the other vehicle
are
different from
your
car), do not
try to jump
start
as
a personal injury
or
severe damage to electrical
and electronic parts may result.

Position the car with the good (charged) bilttery so
that
the
jump
starting cables will reach. Do notallow the
cars
to touch.

3.
Turn
off
an
electric
motors
and accessories in both cars.
Turn
off
all lights except those needed to protect the vehicle or light up
the
work area.
Turnoffthe
ignition, apply the parking brake firmly,
and put the automatic transmission in
"Park"
(manual
transmission in
"Neutral")
in
both cars. .

If
the
discharged battery has filler caps, check the fluid level. (Do
not check with an open flame and do
not
smoke.) Add
cleardrinking
water to the proper level if low, and replace caps ' before
jump
starting.
If
the
battery
isa
Delco sealed type, do not
attempt
to
jump
start
the vehicle, or charge, or test the battery if the test
indicator in the battery is
bright
or light yellow (See Illustration).
Instead, install a new battery.
