Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

which is attached to the left top of
the instrument panel. This plate
can be easily seen through the
windshield from outside your
car
(see illustration). The VIN also
appears on the Vehicle
Certificates
of Title and
Registration.

You can identify your 1979 G M engine from the Vehicle Identification
Number. The fifth character of your VIN is the Engine Code. See the
Engine Code Identification chart below. Certain information· in this
manual may refer to the Engine Code.
