The PowerXL™ Duo NutriSealer™ is a versatile vacuum sealing appliance designed to preserve food and other items by removing air from specialized bags, containers, and jars. Its primary function is to extend the freshness and shelf life of various perishables, reducing oxidation and inhibiting the growth of microorganisms like mold, yeast, and bacteria. This process helps maintain the nutritional value, flavor, appearance, and overall quality of food for longer periods.
The Duo NutriSealer™ operates by creating a vacuum within a bag or container and then sealing it, preventing air from re-entering. It features a main body with a sealing arm that latches shut, securing the bag or container during the sealing process. The control panel includes a Power Light Indicator, a Vacuum & Seal Button for automatic vacuuming and sealing, a Seal Only Button for sealing without vacuuming (useful for delicate foods or resealing bags), and a Vacuum Only Button for use with the Vacuum Tube Attachment. A built-in bag cutter allows users to customize the size of resealable bags from a roll. The appliance is designed for household use and is not a substitute for refrigeration, freezing, or canning processes for perishable foods.
The appliance offers several modes of operation to accommodate different sealing needs:
Vacuum & Seal: This is the standard mode for vacuum sealing bags. Users place the open end of a bag onto the sealing platform, ensuring it's centered between the alignment guides and under the alignment bar tab. After closing and latching the sealing arm, pressing the Vacuum & Seal Button initiates the vacuuming process, followed by an automatic seal. The indicator light turns off when the process is complete. This mode is ideal for most solid foods.
Seal Only: This mode allows users to seal bags without vacuuming. It's particularly useful for delicate foods that might be crushed by vacuum pressure, such as baked goods or chips, or for simply resealing opened bags like cereal or snack bags. The process involves placing the bag on the sealing platform, closing the sealing arm, and pressing the Seal Only Button.
Vacuum Only (with Vacuum Tube Attachment - VTA): The VTA is a key accessory that expands the NutriSealer's functionality beyond bags. It connects to the vacuum port on the appliance and can be used with various vacuum-sealable accessories, including bottle stoppers, regular and wide-mouth canning jar sealers, and specialized containers. To use, the VTA is attached to the appliance, and its larger end is firmly held onto the air valve of the chosen accessory. Pressing the Vacuum Only Button then removes air from the bottle, jar, or container. The indicator light signals completion.
Sealing from a Bag Roll: The appliance supports creating custom-sized bags from a vacuum sealer bag roll. Users first seal one end of the roll to create a bag, then fill it, and finally vacuum and seal the open end. The built-in bag cutter helps trim the roll to the desired length.
Sealing Liquids: When vacuum sealing liquids, it's recommended to leave more free space in the bag (at least 7 inches) compared to solids. For thicker liquids like soups or gravies, the Vacuum & Seal function can be used while holding the appliance above the bag to prevent liquid from rising too quickly. For thinner liquids or when sealing solids with marinade, the Seal Only Button is advised if liquid approaches the appliance during vacuuming.
Creating Individual Packs: The bag roll can be used to create multiple smaller, individual packs. This involves sealing the bottom of a bag, then sealing it down the middle to create vertical compartments, filling these, and then sealing horizontally to create individual sections. These can then be cut apart using scissors.
Date Indicator on Containers: Vacuum-sealable containers feature a date indicator on their lids, allowing users to mark the month and day of sealing to track food freshness.
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the PowerXL™ Duo NutriSealer™.
Cleaning the Appliance: The appliance should always be unplugged before cleaning. It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. It's crucial to ensure the Vacuum Port and Air Release Port are free of debris. If the appliance has been used to vacuum seal liquids containing raw fish, meat, or poultry, it should be cleaned and sanitized thoroughly.
Cleaning the Vacuum Channel: The alignment bar can be removed to access and clean the vacuum channel. A damp sponge or cloth can be used to wipe out any liquid or debris that may have been inadvertently pulled into the channel during vacuum sealing.
Cleaning Accessories: All accessories, such as containers, bottle stoppers, and jar sealers, should be hand washed for best results.
Storage: The appliance should be stored in a clean, dry place when not in use.
Cooling Time: Continuous sealing operations can cause the appliance to enter a sleep mode to cool down. It's recommended to allow 10 seconds between vacuum sealing cycles to prevent overheating and ensure consistent performance.
Heating Wire: Users are advised not to touch the heating wire when it is hot.
General Tips: To prevent air leakage, ensure bags are wrinkle-free when inserted into the vacuum channel. Avoid overfilling bags, leaving at least 3 inches of material between contents and the top of the bag for proper vacuum sealing, and an additional inch for each time the bag might be reused. For best results, bags should be sealed with the textured side facing down.
