Do you have a question about the Prosense SCU-2501 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The ProSense SCU-2501, SCU-2502, and SCU-2503 are universal frequency transmitters designed to convert various input signals into a scalable analog output or act as a frequency relay. The SCU-PDM2 is a programming module used in conjunction with these transmitters.

Function Description

These devices serve as versatile signal conditioners, translating diverse input types into standardized outputs. The SCU-2501 is a universal frequency transmitter with an analog output, while the SCU-2502 is a universal frequency transmitter with an analog output and two relays. The SCU-2503 is a universal frequency transmitter with two relays. They can accept inputs such as special current, special voltage, tachometer, PNP, NPN, contact (NPN), Namur, S0, and TTL signals. The output can be a scalable 4-20mA analog signal or frequency relay outputs. This allows for integration into various control systems, providing flexibility in signal conversion and monitoring. The SCU-PDM2 programming module facilitates configuration and setup of the transmitters.

Usage Features

Mounting:

The devices are designed for DIN rail mounting. To mount, place the top notch of the module onto the DIN rail and press the lower portion until it snaps into place. For the SCU-PDM2, insert its tabs into the holes at the top of the device and swing it down until it snaps into place.

Wiring:

The maximum wire size is 1 x 2.5 mm² stranded wire. Screw terminal torque is 0.5 Nm. It is crucial to remove connectors with hazardous voltages before detaching the device from the DIN rail.

Configuration:

The SCU-PDM2 programming module is essential for configuring the transmitters. After mounting the unit on a DIN rail, connecting power, input, and output wires, and snapping on the SCU-PDM2, power up the unit. The unit should display the configuration menu. If not, press OK once.

  • Press OK to begin configuration.
  • Use the UP/DOWN arrows to scroll through options at each step.
  • Press OK to confirm an option and move to the next step.
  • Press and hold OK to step backwards through the configuration menu.
  • If no sensor is connected, a "SE.BR" error will flash. Press OK once to acknowledge and then again to display the menu.
  • Password protection is available for advanced settings, requiring a 4-digit code.

Error Messages and Troubleshooting:

The display flashes error indications once per second. Input loop errors also cause the backlight to flash, which can be acknowledged by pushing the 3 button.

  • IN.ER (Input error): Input out of configured input limits. Check input signal value and configured limits.
  • IN.LO (Input underrange): Input below low cut-off. Check input signal source.
  • IN.HI (Input overrange): Input above valid measurement range. Check input signal source.
  • -1999 or 9999 (Display out of range): Display saturation. Check configuration and input values.
  • AO.ER (Analog output error): Error in analog output current. Check wiring of analog output and recycle power.
  • SE.OL (Sensor supply overloaded): Sensor supply overload detected. Check sensor supply specifications.
  • SE.SH (Sensor short circuit): Sensor short circuit condition. Check sensor for short circuit.
  • SE.BR (Sensor wire break): Sensor open loop/broken wire condition. Check sensor for open loop/broken wire.
  • NO.CO (No communication): No communication between device and SCU-PDM2. Reattach SCU-PDM2 interface.
  • CO.ER (Configuration error): Invalid configuration downloaded to module. Step through menu to create valid configuration.
  • TY.ER (Invalid configuration type or version): Configuration read from SCU-PDM2 has invalid type or rev. no. Save correct device type and revision configuration.
  • AO.SU (Analog output supply error): Analog output supply error. Verify output configuration and connection.
  • RA.ER (RAM error), AD.ER (A/D converter error), IF.ER (Internal flash error), FL.ER (Frequency input error), EE.ER (EEPROM Error): Internal errors. Contact AutomationDirect.
  • CO.WARN (Storing of configuration failed): Writing configuration to internal device memory failed. Device configuration reverts to last known valid configuration. Cycle through menu to retry writing new configuration.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

The device can be cleaned with a cloth moistened with distilled water.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a comprehensive list of error messages and corresponding actions. Many errors can be resolved by checking wiring, configuration settings, or power cycling the device. Internal errors typically require contacting AutomationDirect. Acknowledging errors is done by pressing the 3 button for input loop errors or by stepping through the basic setup or resetting device power for other errors.
