CAUTION
When the vehicle is in motion, do
not change the gear shift lever from
the R (Reverse) to the D (Drive)
position to prevent a transmission
damage.
S (SPORT)
In S drive mode, the transmission is
kept in lower gear ratio which results in
higher engine revs and more available.
Gear selection display
The selected gear position is shown in
the information display of the meter
cluster.
Operation of the automatic
transmission
CAUTION
(1) When the vehicle stops and the
engine is running, the transmis-
sion gear may engage and the
vehicle will move. Press the
brake pedal before moving the
gear shift lever into D (Drive)
or R (Reverse). Release the
brake pedal when you start to
drive.
(2) Do not press the accelerator
pedal when you change the
gear shift lever from the P
(Park) or N (Neutral) position.
This action can cause a sudden
acceleration.
(3) Always press the brake pedal
with the right foot.
(4) Do not apply the brake pedal
with the left foot, as it can im-
pede the drivers movement
during an emergency.
(5) Do not you press the accelerat-
or pedal and press the brake
pedal same time as this can
causes a change in the perform-
ance of the brakes. The brake
pads will wear off faster.
When this vehicle stops and the
engine is running, do not press the
accelerator pedal and held the
brake pedal. This action can damage
the transmission.
When you push the accelerator
pedal and the brake pedal with the
gear shift lever in the D (Drive)
position, the engine revolutions in
the D (Drive) position does not
increase compared to the same op-
eration with the gear shift lever in
the N (Neutral) position.
Passing acceleration
To increase more speed in D (DRIVE)
position, press the accelerator pedal to
the floor. The transmission will automat-
ically change to a lower gear.
Driving uphill
When you drive up a hill, if the TCU will
sense that the vehicle is unable le to
maintain its speed, the transmission will
not change to a higher gear position.
In this condition, the TCU temporarily
prevents change in gear. After the
vehicle reaches the top of the hill, the
system will operates normally.
Driving downhill
When you a hill, the TCU will automatic-
ally change to a lower gear position. This
function helps the brake force from the
engine and reduce the brake pressure.
