Summary

Electrical Information

Wiring Requirements

Wiring must conform to the National Electrical Code and use a fused disconnect switch for control.

Wire Material Note

Use only copper wire of proper sizing for incoming service; aluminum wiring voids warranty.

Single Stage Oil Burner Adjustments

Air Adjustment

Loosen screw, move knob along scale for desired air position, and tighten screw.

Nozzle Assembly Adjustment & Removal

Adjust nozzle position using screw E; remove nozzle by loosening connecting pipe F.

Ignition Electrode Adjustment

Ensure ignition electrode measurements match Figure 22-4 for proper settings.

Two Stage Oil Burner Adjustments

Air Adjustment

Adjust first stage damper arm (C) and second stage knurled ring (B) for optimal flame.

Nozzle Assembly Adjustment & Removal

Adjust nozzle assembly (C) with screw E; remove by loosening pipe F and disconnecting 2nd stage oil line.

Ignition Electrode Adjustment

Verify ignition electrode measurements correspond to Figure 22-7.

Oil Burner Troubleshooting Suggestions

Burner Fails to Start

Check switches, circuit contacts, fuses, motor overloads, flame safeguard, connections, and oil pump.

Occasional Lockouts

Verify electrode settings, wiring integrity, and check for cracked porcelain or loose connections.

Ignition Issues

Troubleshoot ignition transformer, electrodes, leadwires, plug connections, and air flow switch.

Flame Safeguard Control Lockout

Clean scanner lens/sight tube, check amplifier, or adjust fuel/air ratios for stable flame sighting.

Smoky Flame at Light-Off

Check for defective or incorrect oil nozzle size and verify fuel/air ratio.

Failure to Reach High Fire

Inspect high fire controls, wiring, flame safeguard, hydraulic cylinder, and linkage for binding.

Flame Out During Transition

Verify nozzle, oil pressure, damper settings, pump coupling, and linkage for proper operation.

Smoke Formation Issues

Address white smoke via air/oil ratios; gray/black smoke via nozzle spray, oil pressure, or ratios.

High Fire Input Rate Issues

Check nozzle size, pump pressure, coupling, linkage, and suction line for achieving desired input rate.
