Low Oil Level Switch QUINCY COMPRESSOR
112210-101 3 February 1998
Introduction
Before installing or operating this compressor, read and understand
these instructions and the instruction manual supplied with your
Quincy air compressor. Failure to do so could result in severe property
damage, personal injury or death.
The Quincy Low Oil Level Switch is designed to stop the compressor in the
event of a low oil level condition. However, the installation of this switch does
not eliminate the need for scheduled maintenance as defined in the instruction
manual.
Quincy Compressor cannot assume any responsibility for damage which may
occur due to failure to maintain a sufficient oil supply in the crankcase of the
compressor.
Refer to Table 1 for single pole double throw switch ratings.
Operation
A properly functioning low oil level switch will stop the compressor motor until
the oil level is returned to the recommended operating level. A low oil level
condition will cause the float arm to open the switch contact. Adding oil to the
recommended level will cause the switch contacts to close.
Unit can automatically restart when adding oil to crankcase. Can
cause personal injury. Disconnect and lockout power supplies to all
electrical components before adding oil to compressor crankcase. See
“Stopping for Compressor Maintenance”.
Maintenance
Under normal conditions, the switch does not require any scheduled mainte-
nance. A switch that fails to function properly either by failure to detect a low
oil level condition or by frequently shutting off the motor should be removed and
checked immediately. If it is defective, it should be replaced.
Stopping for Compressor Maintenance
The following procedures should be performed when stopping the com-
pressor for maintenance or service:
High voltage may cause personal injury or death. Disconnect and
lockout/tagout per O.S.H.A. regulation 1910.147 all electrical power
supplies before any maintenance or service is performed on any device
in the compressor package.
Step 1) Per O.S.H.A. regulation 1910.147: The Control of Hazardous
Energy Source (Lockout/Tagout), disconnect and lockout the main
power source. Display a sign in clear view at the main power switch
stating that the compressor is being serviced.
