Overview

This document describes the installation and operation of the Quorum International Handheld Remote Control for ceiling fans, model 7-501-0.

Function Description:

The Quorum International Handheld Remote Control system is designed to provide wireless control over ceiling fan functions, including fan speed, light operation (on/off and dimming), and fan direction (forward/reverse). It consists of a receiver unit that is installed within the ceiling fan's canopy and a handheld transmitter for user interaction. The system features an automatically learned pairing process, eliminating the need for manual frequency switches.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Requirements: The electrical source and fan must be 115/120 volt, 60Hz.
  • Maximum Fan Motor Amps: 1.0 Amp.
  • Maximum Light Watts: 300W for Incandescent and Halogen bulbs.
  • Remote Battery: 3-volt battery (CR2032) for the handheld transmitter.
  • Code Combinations: The system offers 65,000 different code combinations for secure and interference-free operation.
  • Operating Range: The distance between the transmitter and receiver should not be greater than 30 feet for best performance.
  • Light Compatibility: The "DIM" setting is for dimmable LED bulbs only. The "ON/OFF" setting provides light on/off functionality without dimming.

Installation Features:

The installation process involves integrating the receiver unit into the ceiling fan's mounting bracket and connecting it to the fan's electrical wiring.

  1. Safety First: Always disconnect the electrical power source (by removing a fuse or switching off a circuit breaker) before beginning installation to prevent serious injury or death.
  2. Compatibility: Do not use this remote control system with solid-state fans. All electrical wiring must comply with local and national electrical code requirements.
  3. Receiver Placement: The receiver is placed within the mounting bracket, with the black antenna wire laid on top of it.
  4. Wiring Connections (using supplied wire nuts):
    • Green fan wire to Bare supply wire.
    • Black receiver wire (AC IN L) to Black supply wire.
    • White receiver wire (AC IN N) to White supply wire.
    • White receiver wire (TO MOTOR N) to White fan wire.
    • Black receiver wire (TO MOTOR L) to Black fan wire.
    • Blue receiver wire (FOR LIGHT) to Blue light wire.
    • Note: If wire colors differ, a licensed electrician should perform the installation.
  5. Wire Management: Push all connected wires into the junction box.
  6. Canopy Reinstallation: Reinstall the canopy onto the mounting bracket after all connections are made.
  7. Reverse Module Installation (if applicable):
    • Disconnect the switch cup assembly from the bottom of the fan.
    • Connect the 'female' cannon plug on the reverse module to the cannon plug from the fan flange.
    • Connect the 'male' cannon plug on the reverse module to the cannon plug in the switch cup assembly.
    • Secure the switch cup assembly to the fan as per the fan installation instructions.

Usage Features:

The handheld remote control offers intuitive operation for various fan and light functions.

  1. Remote Pairing:
    • Ensure the fan's power is off.
    • Install the 3-volt CR2032 battery into the transmitter, ensuring the positive (+) side faces up.
    • Restore power to the fan.
    • Press and hold the "FAN OFF" button for approximately 5 seconds, then release.
    • If an optional light kit is installed, it will flash twice, and the signal light on the remote will illuminate, indicating successful pairing.
  2. Fan Speed Control:
    • "H" button: Sets fan to high speed.
    • "M" button: Sets fan to medium speed.
    • "L" button: Sets fan to low speed.
  3. Fan Off:
    • "FAN OFF" button: Turns the fan off.
  4. Light Control and Dimming:
    • "LIGHT" button: Turns the light ON or OFF.
    • Press and hold the "LIGHT" button to dim or brighten the light. Release the button at the desired brightness.
    • The light key has an auto-resume feature, returning to the last set brightness level.
  5. Fan Direction (Forward/Reverse):
    • "REVERSE" button: Toggles the fan direction (forward for warm weather, reverse for cool weather).
    • Note: To operate the reverse function, press the reverse button while the fan is running.
  6. Timer Function:
    • "2H", "4H", "8H" buttons: Automatically turn the fan off after 2, 4, or 8 hours, respectively.
    • Note: The timer function is only active when the fan speeds are on; it does not include the light.
    • To cancel the timer, press the "FAN OFF" button and restart the fan speed.
  7. Light Dimming Dip Switch:
    • A "DIM" / "ON/OFF" dip switch (located inside the remote, accessible by removing the battery cover) allows selection between dimmable light functionality (for LED bulbs only) or simple on/off light functionality (no dimming).

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: The handheld transmitter uses a 3-volt CR2032 battery. To replace, remove the set screw on the back of the transmitter, take out the battery cover, and insert the new battery with the positive (+) sign facing up. Use a suitable screwdriver to loosen or tighten the screws.
  • Storage: If the transmitter will not be used for long periods (months), remove the batteries to prevent damage.
  • Antenna: For best performance, ensure the black antenna on the receiver unit remains extended and is not tangled with other electrical wires.
