Thecurrentspeedcanbecheckedatanytimefrom
theAdvancedMenu.
FromtheAdvancedMenu:
1.SelectCheckspeed.
TheCheckSpeedpageisdisplayed:
TheCheckSpeedpagecanalsobeaccessedfrom
theEditcalibrationoptionsmenu:Advanced>
Adjustcaltable>Start>Options>Checkspeed.
ManuallyworkingoutaCalibrationFactor
NewCalibrationFactorscanbeworkedoutmanually
followingthestepsbelow.
Youwillneedtobeunderway,withsufcientspace
tomaneuverunhindered.
Toensureaccuracy,waterconditionsshouldbe
calmwithzerotideandzerocurrent.
Youwillneedtocalibrateeachcalibrationspeed
point,startingwiththelowest
1.Incalmconditionswithzerotideandzerocurrent,
runyourvesselatasteadyspeed,approximately
thatoftheselectedcalibrationspeed,overa
measureddistance.
Makeanoteof:
Themeasureddistanceinnauticalmiles
Thecurrentspeedvalueinknots
Thetimeinminutesittakestocoverthe
measureddistance
2.Calculatetheactualspeedoverthemeasured
distanceusingthecalculation:(Speed=(60x
Distance)/Time)The‘60’isusedtoensurethe
calculationisinminutesratherthanhoursor
tenthsofanhour.
e.g.Distance=14nauticalmiles,Time=105
minutes(1hour45minutes)so:
S=(60xD)/T
S=(60x14)/105
S=840/105
S=8Kts
3.Ifthecalculatedspeedis:
Thesameasthecurrentspeed,(notedduring
theSpeedRunCalibration)thenthecalibration
iscorrectatthisspeedsonoactionisrequired.
Notthesameasthecurrentspeed.Calculate
anew,correctedCalibrationFactor,asfollows:
e.g.ifactualspeedequals8kts,indicated
speedwas7.5ktsandtheoldCalibration
Factorwas1.4then:
newcalfactor=actualspeedxoldfactor/
indicatedspeed
newcalfactor=8x1.4/7.5
newcalfactor=11.2/7.5
newcalfactor=1.49
AddingaCalibrationPoint
CalibrationPointscanbemanuallyaddedtothe
CalibrationTable.TheamountofCalibrationPoints
thatcanbestoredisdeterminedbythetypeofspeed
transducerandmethodofconnection.
