Cabletypesandlength
Itisimportanttousecablesoftheappropriatetypeand
length
•Unlessotherwisestateduseonlystandardcablesof
thecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarine.
•Ensurethatanynon-Raymarinecablesareofthe
correctqualityandgauge.Forexample,longerpower
cablerunsmayrequirelargerwiregaugestominimize
voltagedropalongtherun.
Routingcables
Cablesmustberoutedcorrectly,tomaximize
performanceandprolongcablelife.
•DoNOTbendcablesexcessively.Whereverpossible,
ensureaminimumbenddiameterof200mm(8in)/
minimumbendradiusof100mm(4in).
•Protectallcablesfromphysicaldamageande xposure
toheat.Usetrunkingorconduitwherepossible.Do
NOTruncablesthroughbilgesordoorways,orclose
tomovingorhotobjects.
•Securecablesinplaceusingtie-wrapsorlacingtwine.
Coilanyextracableandtieitoutoftheway.
•Whereacablepassesthroughanexposedbulkhead
ordeckhead,useasuitablewatertightfeed-through.
•DoNOTruncablesneartoenginesorfluorescent
lights.
Alwaysroutedatacablesasfarawayaspossiblefrom:
•otherequipmentandcables,
•highcurrentcarryingACandDCpowerlines,
•antennas.
Strainrelief
Ensureadequatestrainreliefisprovided.Protect
connectorsfromstrainandensuretheywillnotpullout
underextremeseaconditions.
Circuitisolation
Appropriatecircuitisolationisrequiredforinstallations
usingbothACandDCcurrent:
•Alwaysuseisolatingtransformersoraseparate
power-invertertorunPC’s,processors,displaysand
othersensitiveelectronicinstrumentsordevices.
•AlwaysuseanisolatingtransformerwithWeatherFAX
audiocables.
•Alwaysuseanisolatedpowersupplywhenusinga
3rdpartyaudioamplifier.
•AlwaysuseanRS232/NMEAconverterwithoptical
isolationonthesignallines.
•AlwaysmakesurethatPC’sorothersensitive
electronicdeviceshaveadedicatedpowercircuit.
Cableshielding
Ensurethatallcablesareproperlyshieldedandthatthe
cableshieldingisundamaged.
Connectionstootherequipment
Requirementforferritesonnon-Raymarinecables
IfyourRaymarineequipmentistobeconnectedtoother
equipmentusingacablenotsuppliedbyRaymarine,
asuppressionferriteMUSTalwaysbeattachedtothe
cableneartheRaymarineunit.
Dustcaps
Topreventpotentialwateringress,connectorsnotin
useshouldbeprotectedusingthesupplieddustcaps.
Bareendwireconnections
Y ourproductissuppliedwithbareendwireconnections.
Y oumustensurethatALLbareendwiresareadequately
protectedfromshortcircuitandwateringress.
Bareendedwireconnections
Itisrecommendedthatbareendedwireconnectionsare
madebysolderingorusingcrimpconnectorsandthen
protectedbywrappingtheconnectionininsulationtape.
Unusedbareendedwires
Anyunusedbareendedwiresshouldbefoldedback
andwrappedininsulationtape.
