Priortousingthisproductforthefirsttime,pleasecheckyournationalrequirementsforboth
operatorandequipmentlicensing.
Important:Itisyourresponsibilitytodeterminewhetheralicenseisrequiredinyourarea
beforeoperatingthisequipment.
Inmanyregions,thefollowingauthorizationsarerequiredfromtherelevantregulatoryauthority:
1.ShipS

2.Operator’slicense;
3.MMSI(MaritimeMobileServiceIdentity)number.
LicensesaretypicallyissuedbytheNationalRegulatoryAuthorities(NRAs)ineachcountry.
Important:

US Alicensingrequirements
FCCstationlicenserequirement
AnFCCShipRadioStationLicenseandCallSignarenotrequiredformostrecreationalvessels
travellinginUSwaters.However,youmustobtainalicenseifyourvesseltravelstoforeignports.
ShipsthatuseMF/HFsingleside-bandradio,satellitecommunications,ortelegraphymustbe
licensedbytheFCC.

Canadalicensingrequirements
YoudonotneedalicensetooperatethisproductwithinthesovereignwatersofCanadaorthe
UnitedStatesofAmerica(USA).
YouwillneedalicensetooperatethisradiooutsideofCanadaortheUSA.Toobtainlicensing

Europelicensingrequirements
BeforethefirstuseofaVHFradioincountriesinEurope,thefollowingauthorizationsMUSTbe
obtainedfromtherelevantregulatoryauthority.
•ShipStationVHFlicense—thisauthorizestheuseoftwo-wayVHFcommunicationswithother
vessels,aircraftandshorestations.Thislicenseisapplicabletoaspecificvessel,andisusually
validforthelifetimeofthevessel.Ifyoueversellyourvesselinthefuture,youwillneedtoarrange
forthetransferoftheShipStationVHFlicensetothenewvesselowner.
•Operator’slicense—thisauthorizesanindividualoperatortoconducttwo-wayVHF
communicationswithothervessels,aircraftandshorestations.Formostnon-commercial
operators,thislicenseisusuallyreferredtoasa“RestrictedRadiotelephoneOperatorPermit”,
or“RestrictedCertificateofCompetenceinRadiotelephone”.
•MMSI(MaritimeMobileServiceIdentity)number—a9digitnumberwhichissentoveraradio
frequencychannelinordertoidentifytheoriginatingvessel/station.Ifyourvesselalreadyhas
anMMSInumber,thesameMMSInumbermustbeusedtoprogramyourVHFradio.InEurope,
theMMSInumbercanbeprogrammedintotheunitbytheuser.Insomeregions,youmust
obtainaradiooperator’slicencebeforeanMMSInumberwillbeissued.Intheseareas,you
canrequestanMMSInumberfromthesameauthoritythatissuestheOperator’slicenseorShip
StationVHFlicence.
Itisalsotheradiooperator’sresponsibilitytobefamiliarwithallrelevantrulesandregulationsrelated
toradiouse.InregionsinwhichaVHFtransceiveriscompulsory,acurrentcopyoftheapplicable
governmentrulesandregulationsmustbeaccessibletotheoperator.
