This document provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of Renaissance Venetian Blinds, emphasizing child safety throughout.
Function Description
Renaissance Venetian Blinds are designed to offer precise control over light and privacy in a room. They consist of horizontal slats that can be tilted to adjust the amount of light entering, or raised and lowered to fully expose or cover the window. The blinds are operated via a tilt control hook, which adjusts the slat angle, and lift cords, which raise and lower the blind.
Important Technical Specifications
The blinds are available in various sizes, with specific recommendations for width and length. For widths over 75cm, support brackets are recommended to prevent sagging. The maximum total width for a blind is 160cm. The support bracket closest to the pull cord end must be installed, as this is essential for proper operation and stability. The headrail, which houses the operating mechanisms, should be installed level. Blind headrails should not be installed less than 1.5m from the floor to ensure child safety. The minimum drop level for the cord accumulation system is 1.50cm from the floor.
Usage Features
Installation:
- Fix brackets: Measure and mark bracket position, drill holes, and secure the brackets with screws. For wider blinds, additional support brackets are recommended. The brackets can be installed in a recess, wall mounted, or to the ceiling.
- Fix intermediary support brackets: For blinds wider than 75cm, position line-up exactly with the slots on the underside of the headrail. The support bracket closest to the pull cord end is essential.
- Insert face plates: Slide the end brackets into the end plates, then slide into position the bracket face plates into the front of each bracket.
- Fix wand: Connect the wand to the tilt control hook, which is positioned towards the left hand side of the blind.
- Securing blind to bottom of window: To prevent the blind from swaying, secure the bottom weight bar to the window frame. Drill a hole in the end of the bottom weight bar, insert the retention plate, and then clip into the bottom weight bar.
Operation:
- To shorten the blind drop height:
- Ensure the blind is fully lowered.
- Hold the blind at the desired location and allow it to fully lower.
- Remove the bottom weight bar end caps.
- Cut the lift cord 2cm above the end cap and remove.
- Pull the lift cord from the bottom weight bar to allow it to slide out of the ladder rung.
- Count the number of slats to remove. Pull the lift cord from these slats to allow them to slide out of the ladder rung and remove the required number of slats.
- Reinsert the lift cord back through the cap holes.
- Knot the lift cord directly beneath the bottom weight bar and cut off excess cord.
- Allow one extra rung and cut off excess ladder, tucking remaining ladder into the bottom weight bar cap holes. Replace the end caps.
- If the blind is shortened, adjust the pull cord length and replace the plastic cover over the knot and cut off excess cord.
- To operate the blind:
- To raise blind: Move the cord to the left, then pull down gently until the cord lock releases. Pull the cord downwards towards the left until the blind reaches the desired position. The blind will lock automatically.
- To lower blind: Move the cord to the left, then pull down gently until the cord lock releases. Allow the blind to descend until it reaches the desired position. Move the cord to the right and release; the blind will lock in position automatically.
- To tilt blind slats: Rotate the wand clockwise or anti-clockwise to attain desired slat positions.
Position safety cord-stops:
- Install the blind as detailed. Make sure the head rail is securely fastened.
- Measure the distance from the head rail to cord-stops. If cord-stops are 25-50mm below the head rail, no further adjustment is needed.
- If cord-stops are NOT 25-50mm below the head rail, loosen the knot surrounding the cord-stop.
- Push both the cord-stop and the loosened knot towards the head rail until the cord-stop is 25-50mm below the head rail.
- Hold the cord-stop in place and pull firmly on the pull cord to re-tighten the knot.
- Repeat for each cord-stop.
Install cord cleat hook accumulation system:
- Install the cleat hook accumulation system as close to the headrail as possible and, in all cases, not less than 1.5m from the floor.
- Hold the cord cleat up parallel with the window frame. Mark dots through the holes. Drill pilot holes and fix the cleat with screws.
- Wind the cord in a figure-of-eight motion around the cleat to keep cords out of reach. Cords should be fully wound around the cleat hook accumulation system so that no part of the cord is left within reach of children. Compliant with BS EN 13120: 2009+A1:2014 / 16433 / 16434.
To trim blind width:
- The blind can be trimmed by up to 80mm each side (160mm max total).
- Measure the overall width of the outer distance of the mounted end support brackets and deduct 5mm to get the desired finished blind width.
- Calculate the amount that needs to be cut off the blind headrail.
- Divide this measurement by two, then mark and cut this amount equally off each side of the headrail using a hacksaw.
- Remove the end-caps on the bottom weight bar and shorten this in the same manner, then replace the endcaps.
- Then using a Renaissance Venetian Blind Slat Cutter, trim the same measurement off end of each slat.
Maintenance Features
Blind Maintenance: Your blind can be dusted using a Renaissance Venetian Blind Duster. Your local Renaissance retailer can help you with this.
Child Safety is Mandatory!
All chains and loops must be secured. Young children can be strangled by loops in pull cords, chains, tapes and inner cords that operate the product. To avoid strangulation and entanglement, keep cords out of the reach of young children. Cords may become wrapped around a child’s neck. Move beds, cots and furniture away from window covering cords. Do not tie cords together. Make sure cords do not twist and create a loop.
NOTE: Fitting guidelines state that the safety device should keep the cords taut and should not be fitted less than 1.5m from floor level. Go to www.makeitsafe.org.uk for further details.
