CTRL
The ConTRol key lets you set colors and do other special tasks called control functions.
To set colors, hold down the
CTRL
key while you press the key with the color you
want. On the C64, you can get eight more colors with the
key. See later for more
details.
1-BLACK 5-PURPLE
2-WHITE 6-GREEN
3-RED
4-CYAN 8-YELLOW
To get a control function, hold the
CTRL
key down while you press the other key.
Control functions are commonly used in software such as a word processing system.
RUN/STOP
You can halt a BASIC program while it is still RUNning by pressing the
STOP
key.
RUN
lets you load a program automatically from a cassette file (tap). When you
want to use the
RUN
key, you must also use the
SHIFT
key. This action is only
possible using THEC64 keyboard, not the Virtual keyboard explained in CHAPTER 7.
The key can do two things:
1. Switch back and forth between the upper and lower case display mode (the
letters and characters on the tops of the keys) and the upper case/graphic
display mode (capital letters and the graphics on the fronts of the keys).
To switch modes, press
and
SHIFT
keys at the same time on THEC64
keyboard.
When you first enter BASIC, THEC64 is in the upper case/graphic mode, which
means that everything you type in is in capital letters. When you are in this
mode, you can also print all the graphics on the fronts of the keys.
