10.3.1.2 How to Connect and Configure Instruments in Primary-Secondary Instrument
Mode
R&S SMW-B9
Different connectors and setup depending on the installed hardware (R&S SMW-
B9)
Starting form DACW board revision 6, the R&S SMW outputs and expects the synchro-
nization signal at the ADV TRIG and ADV CLK connectors.
Synchronization signal routing via the USER x connectors is not supported.
Check the installed hardware
1. Select [SETUP] > "Instrument Assembly > Hardware Config > Baseband Assem-
bly".
2. Observe the revision of the installed DACW board.
3. For DACW revision < 5, follow the instructions:
● Connect the instruments and distribute the synchronization signal and the ref-
erence frequency
● Configure the primary instrument (R&S SMW)
● Configure the secondary instrument (R&S SMW)
● To start signal generation
● To compensate signal mis-alignment:
4. For DACW revision ≥ 6, follow the instructions:
● Connect the instruments and distribute the synchronization signal (R&S SMW-
B9, DACW revision ≥ 6)
● Configure the primary and secondary instruments R&S SMW (R&S SMW-B9,
DACW revision ≥ 6)
● To start signal generation
● To compensate signal mis-alignment:

●
Configure the secondary instrument (R&S SMW)
●
To compensate signal mis-alignment:
Connect the instruments and distribute the synchronization signal and the refer-
ence frequency
