Risk of causing instrument unusability
The instrument is equipped with the Windows XP operating system. Additional software
can therefore be installed on the instrument. The use and installation of additional soft-
ware may impair instrument function. Thus, run only programs that Rohde & Schwarz
has tested for compatibility with the instrument software.
The drivers and programs used on the instrument under Windows XP have been adapted
to the instrument. Existing instrument software must always be modified using only
update software released by Rohde & Schwarz.
The following program packages have been tested:

R&S Power Viewer - virtual power meter for displaying results of the Power Sensor
R&S NRP-Zxx
●
Windows XP Remote Desktop
●
Symantec Norton AntiVirus – Virus-protection software
In certain cases, the use of these programs can impair the performance of the instrument.
Service Packs
The Windows XP operating system on the instrument is supplied with pre-installed Win-
dows XP service packs that are necessary and suitable for operating the instrument.
Risk of causing instrument unusability
To prevent malfunctions and to avoid instrument repair, only install service packs
approved by Rohde & Schwarz. In particular, do not use service packs for Windows XP
Home Edition or Professional Edition.
Changes in the system setup are only required when peripherals like keyboard or a printer
are installed or if the network configuration does not comply with the default settings (see
chapter 2.6.1, "Connecting the Instrument to the Network", on page 43). After the R&S
SMU is started, the operating system boots and the instrument firmware is started auto-
matically.
Login
Windows XP requires that users identify themselves by entering a user name and pass-
word in a login window. The instrument provides a factory-installed auto login function,
i.e. login is carried out automatically in the background. The ID used for autologin has
administrator rights so that printer and network installations are possible. The user name
and password are set to "instrument".
