Figure 4-2: Timing deviations (t_hold and t_setup) between the clock and the data signals
t
hold
= "Timing Deviation < 0": data signal is received ahead of the clock signal. Data is held and output syn-
chronous to the clock signal
t
setup
= "Timing Deviation > 0": the clock signal is received ahead of the data signal; the processing is held
until the data is received

Supply the external data signal and the external clock signal via the connectors listed
in:

board
To configure the connector:
●
"Custom. Dig. Mod > Clock Settings > Local Con-
nectors > Direction > Input"
●
"Custom. Dig. Mod > Clock Settings > Local Con-
nectors > Signal > Data"
To enable the data source:
●
"Custom. Dig. Mod > Data Source > Data Source
> External Serial"
The instrument can process the external serial data in the least significant bit (LSB
first) or in the most significant bit (MSB first) orders.
For information on the maximum data rate for serial data processing, see the data
sheet.
See also Chapter 4.6.3.3, "Data Source", on page 268
Clock Signals
The instrument requires an internal or an external clock reference for generating the
timing pulse:
●
Internal clock reference
The instrument uses its internal clock reference.
The internally generated symbol clock signal can be output at the local T/M/C con-
nectors. The Table 4-4 gives an overview.
