Updating the System Software (continued)
Updating the VS-880EX From a Zip
®
Disk
The VS-880EX operating system can also be updated by using a Zip
®
disk. You can order a Zip
®
disk with
the latest operating system from the Roland Customer Service department at (323) 890-3700, x2289. You
can also download the update file for Zip
®
disks directly from the Roland U.S. Website
(www.rolandus.com) and copy it onto a VS-880EX formatted Zip
®
disk. You will need the following tools
to update the VS-880EX from a Zip
®
disk:

Zip
®
disk containing VS-880EX operating system
Update Procedure
You must use a SCSI Zip
®
drive to install the update in the VS-880EX. Connecting
a parallel port Zip
®
drive, even though it has similar connectors, can cause damage
to the VS-880EX.
1. Make sure that the power is turned off for the VS-880EX and the Zip
®
drive.
2. Connect the SCSI port on the Zip
®
drive to the SCSI port on the VS-880EX (it does not matter
which SCSI port on the Zip
®
drive you use). Make sure that the termination switch on the
back of the Zip
®
drive is set to “ON.”
3. Insert the Zip
®
disk containing the system update into the Zip
®
drive and turn the Zip
®
drive on.
4. Turn the VS-880EX on. After the VS-880EX boots up, “Update SysPrg?” will be displayed.
5. Press [YES]. The update procedure will begin. When it is finished, “Please Reboot OK?” will be
displayed. Turn the power for the VS-880EX off and then on again. The new system version will
be displayed during as the VS-880EX is booting up.
Only the first three digits of the system software are displayed during the bootup
procedure. To see the full system version, hold the channel 8 [CH EDIT] and
[STATUS] buttons while powering on the VS-880EX. Then, when you are finished,
turn the power off and then on again to return to the normal operating mode.
