SmartConversion
SmartConversion, with Aux Bus Tie Line Management
technology, is an up/down conversion loopthrough that
allows you to produce an output video that uses both SD
and HD inputs simultaneously. With all buses in the
switcher supported, including key and utility buses, true
multi-format production is extremely easy. Simply route
the signal to be converted through one of the aux bus
outputs to an external cross converter, and re-enter the
converted signal back into a switcher input.
Note: SmartConversion is not supported on the MultiProcessor
Input or Evertz
®
IP Input boards.
Conversion Loops
Each conversion loop has an output BNC that goes to
the up/down converter and an input BNC that comes
from the up/down converter. Along with the input and
output BNCs, each conversion loop is assigned an input
and output video format. This allows SmartConversion
to route video signal that need to be converted to the
proper format.
Tip: Up/down converters can only be used on a single video
signal at a time. You should plan ahead to ensure that you will
have enough up/down converters of each video format for all
the video signals you will want on-air at any one time. This
includes video signals that are being transitioned off-air.
A conversion loop ties an aux bus output and an input
BNC together so that when SmartConversion sends a
video signal out to an up/down converter, it knows on
which input BNC the converted video signal is returned
on.
Note: You cannot use an aux bus for SmartConversion and an
AuxKey at the same time.
To Set Up a Conversion Loop
Tip: If you want the video selections for the aux buses that you
are using for up/down converters to be stored in memories, you
must enable aux bus in the memory attributes.
1. Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Aux Bus
> Ext Device Assign.
2. Use the Aux Bus knob to select the aux bus output
that is connected to the input of your up/down
converter.
This is the video signal that needs to be converted.
The aux bus name and number is used to identify
the conversion loop on the switcher.
3. Use the BNC knob to select the input BNC that is
connected to the output of your up/down converter.
This is the video signal that has been converted.
4. Use the Tally when knob to select XPT On Air.
This allows the switcher to identify when a video
signal is going on-air, and needs to be converted.
5. Press SmartConversion > Aux To Converters.
6. Use the Aux Bus knob to select the aux bus output
that is connected to the input of your up/down
converter.
7. Use the Used for Conv. knob activate the selected
conversion loop (Yes), or turn the conversion loop
off (No).
Note: If an aux bus is set up as an AuxKey, you cannot
assign it to a SmartConversion loop.
8. Use the Delay knob to select the amount of time
that is required for the up/down converter to convert
the video signal and send it back to the switcher.
9. Press Converter Format.
10. Use the Input Format knob to select the video
format that is being sent to the up/down converter.
11. Use the Output Format knob to select the video
format that is being received from the up/down
converter.
12. Press HOME > Confirm.
SmartConversion Setup
You can specify which MEs and video feeds that
SmartConversion is used on. This allows you to turn
SmartConversion on or off for specic ME video feeds
or lock a specic conversion loop to an ME or key. The
display on the Fade to Black module can be used to show
the number of conversion loops that are still available.
To Enable a Bus to Use SmartConversion
Selecting which buses, or video signals, SmartConversion
can convert allows you to prevent SmartConversion from
converting video signals that you want to remain in
non-native video format. This will also help to limit the
usage of conversion loops for buses that do not need to
be converted.
1. Press HOME > Setup > Installation > Aux Bus
> SmartConversion > Bus Disabling.
2. Use the Bus knob to select the bus, or video source,
that you want to assign to use SmartConversion.
