RON is Research
Octane
Number.
The
average
ofth
ese
two
is
th

number
that
appears
on
th
e
gas
pump
under
Federal
law
. This
number
is
sometimes
ref
erred
to
as
the
"antiknock
index"
or
Average Octane
Number
(AON).
To
avoid
deposit
formation
on
the
fuel in-
je
ctors
which
can
adversly
affec
t perfor-
mance
and
cause
driveability
problems
after
a
cold
start,
use
only
quality
gasolines
which
are
blend
ed
with
det
ergent/d
isper-
sant
additives.
Use
of
gasoline-alcohol
blends
Gasoline-ethanol
blends
(gasohol)
has
sufficient
octane
rating
and
is safe to
use in Saab engines
if
the
blend
does
not
exceed 10%.
may
cause
warm
starting
problems
in
hot
weather.
Discontinue use
if
this oc-
curs.
may
require
fu
el filter
replacement
soon
after
beginning
continuous use.
Gasoline-methanol
blends
are
safe to use
in
Saab engines
and
fuel
systems providing
that
the
ratio
of
methanol
to gasoline
does
not
exceed
5%
and
that
the
blend
contains
a cosol-
vent
such
a TEA
in
amounts
equa
l to
the
methanol
to gasoline
percentage
blend
ratio.
Failure
or
damage
caused
by
using
gasolines
with
excessive alcohol
bl
ends
(more
than
the above
recommend
ed
blending
percentages)
are
not
covered
by
the
warranty.
Engine oil
Check
the
oil level
at
regular
int
ervals. Al-
ways
swi
tch
the
engine
off
first
and
wait
at
least five
minutes
before checking.
Do
not
let
the
level fall
below
the
low
er
mark
on
the
dipstick,
nor
fill
beyond
the
upper
mark;
this
will cause excessive oil
consump-
tion.
The
distance
between
the
upper
and
low
er
marks
corresponds
to a volume
of
ap
-
prox. 1
quart
(1 liter).
Top
up
with
oil
of
a
recommended
grade
as
necessary.
After
Oil filler cap with dipstick
checking the oil
and
topping
up
as
neces-
sary,
push
the
dipstick
all
the
way
down
an
d tighten the
cap
securely.
SAE
10W-30 is the
primary
oil
recommen-
dation
for
your
Saab.
Turbos
require
SAE
10W-30
meeting
the
API Service
rating
SF
I
CD
(preferred)
or
SFICC
(acc
eptable).
Naturally
aspirated
models
may
use 10W-
30 oil
meeting
the API Service
SF
/CC. For ex-
tended
use
in
sub-zero
temperatures
SAE
5W-30
may
be
used
provided it
meets
the
API Service
requirements.
In
extremely
hot
climates
15W-40,
th
at
meets
the
required
API Service ratings,
may
be
used.
Extra
oil
add
itives are
not
recommended.
NOTE! Your
new
car
came
with
a
"break- in" filter.
The
service
lif
e
of
this
filter is
such
that
it
MUST
be
replaced
at
the
1000 mile service.
