Piston
Note:
In case th ere are pistons with square-profiled and L- profi led rings, fit the Iotter i nto
th e upp er recess (leg points upward).
Heat piston to 70 ... 80 ° C (158 . .. 176 ° F) end fit it in position on the connecting rod by
me ans of the fixing bolt. Arrow on piston cro wn must po int to the exhaust .
Insert gudgeon pin - with the aid of wit hdrawal tool (3, Fig. 6) and insertion bush (2,
Fig. 6
), if necessary.
Use slotted boar d (1, Fig. 6).
Cover the cr ankca se, fit the t wo wi re circlip s, making s ur e t hat they are corr ect ly
seated.
Cylinder and cylinder head
Scrape off the projecting e nd s of the gasket .
Locate the cylinder fla nge gasket wit h th e g r aphited side facing the c rankcase. 0
Put pis ton on slotted w ood en board (1, Fig. 6), lightly oil the cylind er and place it in
po si tion over t he pis ton, taking car e n ot to rotate the c ylinde r, o the rwise it might
damage the piston rings.
Remove s lot ted boa rd and se cur e cy linde r with 4 nut s M 10. Th ese nu ts s hou ld be
tightened diagona lly, with a torq ue of 4.6 .. .4 .8 kpm (33.3 . .. 34 .7 ft . lb.) for SW 14
(14 mm across f la ts) a nd a tor q ue of 2.0 .. . 2.2 kpm (14.7 ... 15.9 ft. lb .) for SW 17 (1 7 mm
across fl ats).
Fit the cylinder head (de compressor to wards power takeo ff s ide ) and secure it with
4 he xag on head bolt s M 10 x 55 (in the case of the SACHS SA 340 C with 6 screws
M 8 x 60). Tig ht en bo lts diagona ll y with a to r que of 4.6 .. .4 .8 kpm (33.3 ... 34.7 ft . lb.) for
M 10 x 55 and wi th a torque of 2.2 .. . 2.6 kpm (15.9 ... 18.8 ft . lb .) fo rM 8 x 60.
Armature base plate and labyrinth ring

Pass the ins ulating tube with l ead and the ignit i on l ea d (not in th e case of 75 W
eq ui pment ) through the hole s in the crankcase. P lac e arma ture ba se plate (4, Fig. 5)
in position so tha t the ma rks (3, Fig. 5) are lined up , and secure it with 3 filli ster head
scre ws M 5 x 12 and washers.
Torqu e 0.4 ... 0.5 kpm (2. 9 ... 3.6 ft. I b).
Note :
N ew armature base pl at es h ave no timing mark and should be adj ust ed by means
of th e lo n gi tudinal sl ots.
Put socket wit h rubb er cap (2, Fig. 5) on ign it ion l ead and sc rew it int o the crankcase .
Fit
rubber sleeve (1 , Fig. 5) on the ignit ion le ad. Han g spr ing into i gnition l ead (tak i ng
car e t hat the s pring ge ts in to contact with the core of the ignitio n l ead) and i nsert i nto
s park plug terminal.
Insert labyrinth ring (5, Fig. 5) a nd se cure it with 4 fi ll ister h ead screws M 5 x 4.
Magneto flywheel

Fit o n magneto housi ng with s cr e wed in flywh eel, making sure that the Woodruff key
engages acc ura tely with the groove in the fl ywhe e l.
