Adjustment proc;edure fo r ignition setting :
Magneto flywheel with ig nit io n control
Stopped engine:
1. When com is in i ts h ig h es t position, adjust contact-breaker clearan ce (b, Fig. 56 or
57) to 0.4 ± 0.05 mm (0.016 ± 0.002 in.).
2. Turn the mag n eto flywhee l in the reverse direction of ro tation and det ermin e the
firing posit ion wi th the a id of the ignition timing gouge.
3. In this posi tion the contacts sh ould now begin to open. If not, then the f iri ng tim e
con be
adjusted by turning the armature bose plate. This con be done by mea ns of
the longitud in al slots.
4. T urning the armature bose plate in reverse direction of rotation advances the
ig ni ti on , and in the direction of rotation retards the ig n it i on.
5. When the se tting is ad justed, screw the arma ture bose pl ate fi rmly i nto posi tion.
6. If the ign i tion se tting is correct ly carri ed out, the pole shoe gop (a, Fi g. 56) s hould
measure be t ween 32 ... 36 mm (1.2598 ... 1.4173 in.), and th e po le s hoe gop (a, Fig. 57)
between 25 ... 29 mm (0.9843 ... 1 .141 7 in .).
Magneto flywheel wi th screwed on c ontact brea ker h ub
1. When com is in its highest position , adjust contact - breaker cl earance (b, Fig. 56 ) to
0.4 ± 0.05 mm (0.016 ± 0.002 in.).
2.
Tu rn the ma gneto f l ywheel in the reverse direction of rotation unt il the mark (M)
on the magneto flywheel is in line with the mark on the housing.
3. Rotate armature bose pl ate until gop between pole shoe and armature core (a, Fig.
56)
is adjusted to 16 ... 19 mm (0.62992 ... 0.74803 in.).
4. When the setting is adjusted, sc rew the armature bose pl ate fir mly into position.
5. In this posi tio n the co ntacts should begi n to open . If not, th e firing time con be
adjusted by turni ng the contact - breaker hub (Fig. 53). This con be done by means
of the longit udi nal slots.
6. Turn ing the cont act - br ea ker hub in the oppo s ite di rection of rotat ion re tard s the
ign it i on , and in the direction of rotation ad vances the ignit i on .
