The appsKids Mode
Adding your movies
Kids Mode includes a media player, allowing
you t o load kid-frien dly movies onto your
device. Thi s too is subject to usage limits if you
have deined them. Internal storage is limited
but micro SD cards of up to 128GB ar e available
on some devices, so to ensu re that the device
continues to run smoothly it’s best to put
movies on the card. This also makes copying the iles across from a
PC easier. Videos can be approved per item, allowing you to have
multiple videos on a card and allow access to them individually.
Change authorised applications
Wi thi n Kid s Mode, it is possible to add app lications that are
downloaded via the Play Store or Samsung Apps in addition to
the purpose-built apps that can be installed from the Kids Mode
store. By default, all non-Kids Mode apps are disabled, so a parent
needs to log in (by en tering the secure PIN) and authorise each
app individually. Although authorised apps efectively launc h
outside of the Kids Mode app, children are still unable to break out
of the limited environment, because if they close the app or press
the home button, they will be returned back to the Kids Mode
interface. Coniguration of the authorised applica t ions can be found
in the parental contr ol menu, which is accessed using the ‘hand-
holding icon’ in the bottom right. When adding third-party apps,
it’s important to remember that they’re adapted for children, so you
should ensure tha t the content is a ppropriate and particularly that
they don’t allow the child to break out of the ‘walled garden’ of Kids
Mode via access to built-in web browsers, app launche rs or similar.
You should also be aware that when applications are automatically
updated they wil l remain accessible from withi n Kids Mode.
