Overview

This document is an owner's manual for a Sarka Stainless Steel Grill, specifically Model SSGI. The manual provides comprehensive information for the safe assembly, operation, and maintenance of the grill, along with warranty details and troubleshooting tips.

Function Description:

The Sarka SSGI is an outdoor gas grill designed for convection-type grilling. It is intended for use with either a 20 lb. LP (propane) cylinder or can be connected to a natural gas supply, depending on the model. The grill aims to provide tender, juicy, and flavor-filled meals by operating with the hood closed.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: SSGI (The manual also references SSGI500 in the rough opening diagram, suggesting a specific size or series within the SSGI line).
  • Fuel Type: LP gas (propane) or Natural Gas.
  • LP Cylinder Requirement: Designed for use with a 20 lb. LP cylinder constructed and marked in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) or Canadian Standard CAN/CSA-B339.
  • Natural Gas Orifice: Natural gas models come shipped with a valve and a #43 orifice.
  • Temperature Range (400 & 500 series): 400 degrees to 560 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Recommended Grilling Temperature: 450-500 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Island Opening Dimensions (for built-in installation):
    • Length: 35.5 inches
    • Width: 18.5 inches
    • Depth: 11 inches
  • Clearances: Recommended clearances to back and sides of the grill are 30 inches to any combustible material.
  • Burner-Electrode Gap: 1/4 inch.
  • Hose Connection (LP models): 3/8" flare fitting.
  • Wrench Sizes for Hose Assembly: (1) 5/8" wrench and (1) 3/4" wrench.

Usage Features:

  • Convection Grilling: The grill is designed for cooking with the hood closed, promoting tender and juicy results.
  • Preheating: It is crucial to preheat the grill to 500 degrees Fahrenheit for a minimum of 20 minutes before grilling food for the first time to burn off any oil residue. For regular use, preheat for 10-15 minutes or until the desired temperature is achieved.
  • Lighting Procedure:
    1. Visually inspect the hose and check for gas leaks.
    2. Turn on the service valve on the LP cylinder (wide open recommended).
    3. Open the hood.
    4. Turn the valve on the front console to "high."
    5. Rotate the ignition handle clockwise several times until the burner lights.
    6. Visually inspect for flame through the inspection hole.
    7. Adjust the valve control to "medium" setting.
    8. If ignition does not occur immediately, turn the burner valve handle to "off," wait 5 minutes, and repeat the lighting procedure.
  • Postheating: After removing food, turn the valve control knob to "medium" and let the grill operate for 10 minutes. This helps clean the grill.
  • Accessories: The manual lists several available accessories: Half Rack, Griddle, Soup Plate, and Charcoal Pan.

Maintenance Features:

  • Periodic Inspection: Recommended every 3 months to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Cleaning:
    • Frequency: Periodically, at least every 3 months, or weekly if preferred.
    • Heavy Build-up: Use "SARKA GRILL KLEEN."
    • Light Cleaning/Polishing: Use "SARKA STAINLESS CLEANER."
    • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe in the same direction as the grain of the stainless steel to avoid scratches.
    • Catch Pan: Clean with a spatula only. A build-up of drippings in the pan is desirable for flavor and to help avoid flare-ups, as it absorbs grease and allows it to vaporize into ash.
  • Spider Prevention: Yellowish flame or sooty bottom of the catch pan can indicate spiders nesting in the burner. The solution involves removing the burner and cleaning the intake and ports with a drinking straw or pipe cleaner.
  • Gas Leak Detection: Use a soapy solution of water to check all connections for tightness. Never use a flame.
  • Hose Inspection: Inspect the hose before each use for abrasion, wear, or cuts. Replace if damaged.
  • Cylinder Storage: LP cylinders not in use must be stored outdoors, out of reach of children, and not in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.
  • Warranty:
    • Duration: 25 years for defects in material and workmanship under normal use (North America, parts only, non-transferable).
    • Exclusions: Regulator, hoses, valves, knobs, and igniters are warranted for 1 year. Cast iron burners are warranted for 10 years.
    • Conditions: Requires proof of purchase, no damage/alteration/misuse, proper installation/operation, and an acceptable defect report.
    • Voiding Warranty: Improper installation of natural gas models by an unauthorized technician or plumber unfamiliar with gas and combustion systems will void the warranty.
    • Returns: Allowed within 90 days of invoice date with prior written authorization, shipped freight prepaid, unused, in acceptable packaging, and subject to a 20% restocking charge.
