Stand-by-mode & switching off
If the brewing cycle has been interrupted, the appliance
can be returned to standby mode, or switched off.
Turn the rotary control until only the main indicator light
remains lit. The unit is now in stand-by-mode.
The unit can be switched off by selecting and
pressing the rotary control .
Cable storage
The cable storage space serves for storing the cable.
The recess at the bottom facilitates limiting the length of the
power cord.
Cleaning and care
Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected
from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
For safety reasons the coffee maker should not be
treated with water or liquids and should never be
immersed.
Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners.
After each use:
Clean the lter system and heat-retaining carafe:
To remove the coffee grounds, open the swing-out
lter, take off the lid and lift out the lter insert. Take out
the paper lter with the coffee grounds; as a natural
substance, the coffee grounds may be composted.
The drip-through lid, lter lid and lter insert may be
cleaned in hot soapy water, or in the dish-washer.
Do not dismantle the carafe, do not wash in a
dishwasher and do not immerse it in water.
Rinse the inside of the heat-retaining carafe with water
and wipe the outside with a clean damp cloth after use.
The individual parts should be thoroughly dried and then
re-tted to the unit.
If required:
Wipe the outer surfaces using a clean damp cloth; dry
thoroughly afterwards.
Wipe the inside of the reservoir with a clean damp cloth.
To prevent the outlet-valve of the water reservoir from
getting clogged, use a non-uffy cloth to clean the water
reservoir and the glass jug.
To remove any coffee deposits from the inside of the
heat-retaining carafe, ll it with hot water and add a
teaspoon of dishwasher detergent. Close with the
lid and leave it standing for some hours. Rinse out
thoroughly with water afterwards.
Descaling
Depending on the water quality (lime content) in your
area as well as the frequency of use, all thermal
household appliances using hot water need descaling
(i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular basis to
warrant proper functioning.
Any warranty claim will be null and void if the
appliance malfunctions because of insufcient
descaling.
The indicator starts ashing when the unit needs
descaling.
Descaling must not be done right away, but should be
done soonest.
Descaling may also be initiated any time prior to the
indicator ashing.
For descaling we recommend using a mixture of 6 cups
of water and 50 ml of vinegar essence.
Place a paper lter into the plastic lter (without using
ground coffee).
Fill the cold descaling solution into the water reservoir.
Turn the rotary control to and press it. The light ring,
the main indicator light and are lit.
Pour away the descaling solution once it has passed
through the system. Do not pour descalers down
enamel sinks. Do not use the descaling solution a
second time.
Once descaling has nished, the light ring starts
ashing.
To clean the machine after descaling operate it twice
or three times with fresh cold water only (without using
ground coffee). To start the process, select the symbol
and press the rotary control .
Disposal
Devices marked with this symbol must be
disposed of separately from your household
waste, as they contain valuable materials which
can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment
and human health. Your local authority or retailer can
provide information on the matter.
If a fault occurs…
if the brewing cycle takes longer than normal, or
if the valve of the water reservoir has become leaky,
descale the water reservoir (see section Cleaning and
care/Descaling).
if hot water is ejected through the reservoir lid, or
if the valve does not open although the boiling process
is complete,
the water reservoir has been overlled.
When lling the water reservoir be careful not to exceed
the maximum water level of 8 cups and not to remain
below the 3-cup mark for medium-sized coffee cups.
