Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the Sharp 43BJ4K and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document outlines the setup and initial configuration of a Sharp television, designed for ease of use and a rich viewing experience. The process begins with the physical assembly of the stand, followed by connecting the necessary cables and powering on the device. The first-time installation wizard then guides the user through essential settings, ensuring the TV is ready for immediate use.

Physical Setup and Stand Installation

The initial step involves carefully fitting the stand to the television. To prevent damage, the TV panel must be placed face down on a flat and clean surface. The stand installation requires a cross-head screwdriver and utilizes four screws provided for this purpose. The stand feet are designed to be longest at the front of the TV and shortest at the back, ensuring stability. Once the feet are correctly positioned, they are secured to the underside of the TV using the provided screws. This straightforward process ensures the TV is stable and ready for subsequent connections.

Connecting Your Set

After the stand is securely attached, the next phase involves connecting the TV to power and, optionally, to an aerial for Freeview/Saorview channels. First, connect the TV to a power socket. If you intend to watch Freeview or Saorview channels, connect an outdoor Digital TV aerial to the RF input on the TV. If these services are not desired, this step can be skipped. The TV is now ready to be powered on.

Powering On the TV

The television can be powered on using either the TV control stick or the remote control. The TV control stick is located on the TV set itself. Alternatively, insert the supplied batteries into the remote control and press the standby button. The remote control offers a convenient way to interact with the TV from a distance, providing access to all its functions.

Wall Mounting the TV (Optional)

For users who prefer to wall-mount their television, the document provides brief instructions. This involves removing the four screws supplied in the wall mounting holes on the rear of the TV. The wall mount can then be easily attached to these mounting holes. It is crucial to install the wall mounting bracket according to the instructions provided by the bracket manufacturer. The document notes that spacers, which may be shown in illustrations, are not applicable to all sets or installations.

First-Time Installation Wizard

Upon powering on for the first time, the TV enters a First Time Installation mode, which guides the user through a series of essential settings. This mode can be re-entered later by restoring the set to default settings via the 'About TV' Menu.

  1. Introduction: The wizard begins with a welcome message, inviting the user to set up their 4K Ultra HD TV.
  2. Language Selection: Users are prompted to select their preferred on-screen display language. This choice affects the language of menus and associated information. This setting can be changed later via Settings > System Menu > Language.
  3. Country Selection: Selecting the correct country flag is crucial as it enables the TV to correctly install functions applicable to that specific region.
  4. Environment of Use: The TV offers a "Home Mode" which is the default setting for normal use. This mode is a power-saving option that reduces energy consumption by up to 25% by lowering the power to the LED/LCD panel. This setting can be adjusted in the picture mode settings. The document also notes that in home mode, the TV will automatically switch off after 4 hours if no buttons are pressed on the TV or remote control. This auto-standby feature can be modified in Settings > Time > Auto Standby.
  5. Default Source Selection: Users select the source they use most frequently. If "Digital TV (Freeview)" is chosen, the TV will proceed to tune in and default to Freeview. If another source is selected, the TV will not tune in at this stage but will default to the chosen input. Tuning can be initiated later via Settings > Channels.
  6. Network Setup: The TV can be connected to a broadband router via an Ethernet cable (recommended for skipping this step) or wirelessly to access Smart functions. This step allows the TV to connect to the internet, enabling access to various online features.
  7. Netflix Setup: If a user has a Netflix account, it can be set up during this stage. Once validated, the First Time Installation proceeds to the next step. Users can also choose to skip this step and set up Netflix later.
  8. Tune in Channels: This step prompts users to install terrestrial channels, either immediately or later. If the outdoor aerial is connected to the "RF IN" socket, selecting "Next" initiates the automatic tuning process.
  9. Support Advice: Information regarding support is displayed briefly. The tuning process continues, showing a progress bar and the number of channels found. If signals are picked up from multiple transmitters, the user will be asked to select primary and secondary regions.

Connectivity Overview

The TV offers a comprehensive range of connectivity options to integrate with various external devices and networks. These include:

  • Ethernet/LAN: For network connection, essential for Freeview HD services and smart functions.
  • Digital Audio: Optical Audio Output for high-quality sound.
  • USB 2.0: Two USB ports for connecting external devices.
