Overview

This document describes a range of top-mounted sand filters, specifically the SF/PPF series, including models SF15/PPF15, SF25/PPF25, SF30/PPF30, SF45/PPF45, SF60/PPF60, SF65/PPF65, SF85/PPF85, and SF200/PPF200. These devices are designed for water filtration, primarily in swimming pool applications.

Function Description

The core function of these devices is water filtration, achieved through a multi-functional valve that allows for various operational modes:

  • Filtration: The standard operating mode where water passes through the sand filter media to remove impurities.
  • Backwash: A cleaning cycle that reverses the water flow through the filter bed to dislodge accumulated debris and flush it out to waste. This process is crucial for maintaining filter efficiency and is recommended for 2-3 minutes.
  • Rinse: A short cycle following backwash to settle the filter bed and flush any remaining dirty water to waste before returning to filtration. This is typically performed for 30 seconds.
  • Waste: A mode to bypass the filter and send water directly to waste, useful for draining the pool or vacuuming heavy debris.
  • Close: A mode to shut off all flow through the valve.
  • Circulation: A mode to circulate water without passing it through the filter, useful for chemical distribution.
  • Winter: A specific setting for winterizing the unit, involving draining and cleaning the product, then storing it in a dry, sheltered place with the valve lever in the WINTER position.

The multi-functional valve is operated by a lever, which must only be switched when the pump is off to prevent damage.

Important Technical Specifications

The SF/PPF series offers a range of models with varying capacities and dimensions, catering to different pool sizes and flow requirements.

General Specifications:

  • Sand Grain Size: 0.4 - 0.8 mm
  • Turbidity Reduction Efficiency (TBR¹): Ranging from 68% to 93% across models, indicating effective removal of suspended particles.
  • Retained Mass (dp20²): Varies from 58 g to 235 g, representing the amount of impurities the filter can hold.
  • EN 12904 (Type 2) Compliance: All models conform to this standard, ensuring quality and performance.

MOP (Maximum Operating Pressure) and Backwash Pressure:

  • Filter (m/bar/kPa): Ranges from 0.2-0.4 m (20-40 kPa) to 0.8-1.0 m (70-100 kPa) depending on the model.
  • Backwash (m/bar/kPa): Ranges from 0.4-0.5 m (40-50 kPa) to 1.1-1.5 m (110-150 kPa) depending on the model.

Inlet/Outlet Connections:

  • All models feature Ø32/Ø38 mm inlet/outlet connections.

Usage Features

Installation:

  • The product must always be located at least 3.5 meters from the edge of the swimming pool from which water is drawn.
  • Consider dimensions and position of hydraulic parts, necessary clearance, support, and its location during installation.
  • The installation process involves assembling the multi-functional valve, connecting inlet/outlet pipes, and filling the filter with sand.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free.

Operation:

  • Safety First: Always disconnect the power plug from the power outlet and switch off the pump before operating the multi-functional valve lever or performing any maintenance.
  • Filtration Cycle: It is recommended to run the filter twice a day for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Backwash and Rinse: Perform a backwash and rinse cycle once a week or more often if necessary, especially if the filter pressure increases or water clarity decreases.
  • Winterization: For winterization, drain all water from the product, clean it thoroughly (without detergents or chemicals), and store it in a dry, sheltered place. Set the multi-functional valve lever to the WINTER position.

User Safety and Responsibility:

  • The product can be used by children aged 8 years and above, and by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning safe use and understand the hazards involved.
  • Children must not play with the product.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children without supervision.
  • It is compulsory to check that the inlet ends are not blocked.
  • Replace any damaged or worn components as quickly as possible, using only original spare parts.

Maintenance Features

Regular Checks:

  • Regularly check the need for backwash, indicated by increased pressure or reduced flow.
  • Ensure the suction points are not blocked.

Cleaning:

  • Perform backwash and rinse cycles as needed to clean the filter media.
  • For winterization, a thorough cleaning of the entire unit is required.
