Architecture
All PROFIBUS subscribers are connected in a bus structure (line). Up to 32 subscribers
can be interconnected as masters or slaves in one segment. The bus is terminated by
an active bus terminator at the beginning and end of each segment.

Acyclic data (service data)
The MLG-2 ProNet PROFIBUS is a PROFIBUS field device and is integrated into a PROFI‐
NET network as a slave. The MLG-2 consumes data of the master from the PROFIBUS
(output data) and produces data for the PROFIBUS (input data).
Cyclic data (process data)
Modules are available as process data (see "Cyclic data (process data)", page 64) and
are used to compose communication messages.
Acyclic data (service data)
Record Request and Record Response enable access to the MLG-2’s object library.
The service data allow PROFIBUS field devices to be parameterized and configured, and
can also be used to read out status information or process data. Communication takes
place via PROFIBUS Read/Write Record Indication and Record Response.
