Enabling and disabling ports
The Hicom Assistant E can be used to disable boards and ports. Disabling the ports or boards does not
interrupt existing connections. However, the ports cannot be reseized.
Hicom Assistant E cannot enable ports that were disabled by means of a switch.
Power failure transfer (ALUM)
Hicom Assistant E cannot be used to perform a power failure transfer to analog telephones.
13.4 Automatic error signalling
13.4.1 Alarms on the system telephone
Class A errors are displayed on the intercept position or output to the connected printer. In the case of
faults that occur, for example, because the paper ran out, the following message is output:
PRINTER ALARM
The message can be deleted from the terminal display.
13.4.2 Remote error signalling
See Section 13.5.
13.5 Remote administration and maintenance
Function
Communication between the service centre and the Hicom 150 E Office communication system via
the public telephone network for performing service work is known as "remote administration and
maintenance". This service work includes the following:
remote administration, maintenance and diagnostics
remote software correction
automatic trouble reporting
Remote administration and maintenance is normally performed by a service centre. This makes it
possible to administer and maintain several different communication systems.
The integrated analog/digital modem can be used for remote operation.
For data security reasons, the connection to the integrated modem in the customer system can be set
up by means of a callback call. In order to do this, one or more passwords must be set up in the
system, along with the corresponding callback numbers. The remote administration and maintenance
functions can be called up as independent applications only from Hicom Assistant E. Hicom Assistant
E has access to the same range of features via remote administration and maintenance that are
available with on-site access.
Figure 13-1 shows the basic layout of equipment components for remote operation.
