A customer database has a customer and service password. The customer password is first checked if
it has not yet been entered. The service code can only be entered and subsequently changed when the
customer password has been checked. The service password is mainly necessary for the release of the
licensed B channels. If a customer database is transferred to a HICOM system, from which is was not
loaded (e.g. if it was newly created or loaded from the hard disk), the use there of the service code is
also essential.
Trace group
Each of these parameters stands for a LAN Bridge software component (not all are currently
assigned). The trace level value can be between 0 and 9 and provides an indication of the degree of
detail of the trace to be run for the associated LAN Bridge software component. Thus, the value 0
deactivates the trace, while the value 9 records the maximum number of details. Since the recording of
activities of a LAN Bridge software component always increases the processor load, traces should
only be activated where they appear necessary for service purposes. Bear in mind that a detailed trace
rapidly fills up the buffer provided and is therefore quick to overwrite old data. The result of a less
detailed trace, on the other hand, can be retained over a longer period of time. The contents of the
trace buffer can be saved as an ASCII file on the maintenance PC.
Login extension
The following parameter also appears under Settings/Basic setting after entering the service password:
LAN Bridge login extension. This parameter is blank by default and should only be assigned an
internal extension for test purposes.
The call destination entered here is automatically called after booting LAN Bridge. A short call signal
is audible for every S
0
port put into operation at the appropriate station.
Logging function
For reasons of data protection it is necessary log all changes that were made to a customer system
either locally or remotely. On request, the customer can therefore be presented with a substantiated
list of changes which have been made to his/her system.
The logging function is activated by calling up the Service mode with CTRL+Q. After ending the
remote session, the Assistant compares the customer database that was loaded and the one transferred.
In addition, a directory .../HLB/Konfiguration/LOG is created the first time the administration tool is
started up.
When loading the customer database from LAN Bridge, it is automatically saved in a file
(".../LOG/Lastload.hic"). If the modified customer database is sent back to LAN Bridge, this is also
saved in a file (".../LOG/Lastsave.hic") and compared with the data in the previously stored file. The
differences between the two customer databases are stored in a delta file (".../LOG/Diff.hic"). In
addition to the items changed, the name of the LAN Bridge comparison, date and time of the remote
session and the ID of the support personnel are provided in the file's header.
For archiving purposes, the "Diff.hic" file must be renamed manually by the Service employee and
saved.
