3.3.8 TIEL
Introduction
The TIEL (tie line ear & mouth) board provides four two-way analog trunk tie circuits with E&M
signalling for Hicom 150 E OfficePro. Each tie trunk circuit has eight ports, two for incoming speech
paths, two for outgoing speech paths, two for incoming signalling and two for outgoing signalling.
These ports permit tie traffic to other private communication systems.
Speech paths
The speech paths can be switched between four-wire and two-wire mode. Four-wire connection mode
should be used in analog networks to ensure high transmission quality (this description only deals
with four-wire mode).
The advantage of separate speech paths for the incoming and outgoing directions is that the stability
(echo) of a connection is not adversely affected. In addition, the attenuation loss on the line is
compensated by repeaters in the transmission equipment.
E&M signalling paths
The E&M signalling paths are used for exchanging signals that control connection setup and
cleardown. Various types of interface can be selected, depending on the requirements of the partner
system or transmission equipment. These interface types are characterised by different numbers of
wires and different potentials.
