3.2 Observing the Five Safety Rules
There are ve safety rules that must always be observed to assure not only personal safety, but
to prevent material damage as well. Always obey safety-related labels located on the product
itself and always read and understand each safety precaution prior to operating or working on
the drive.
The ve safety rules:
1. Disconnect the power applied to the system.
2. Protect against reapplication of power.
3. Make sure that the equipment is de-energized.
4. Apply grounding (earthing) means.
5. Cover or enclose adjacent components to secure all forms of hazardous energy.
DANGER
Danger Due to High Voltages
High voltages cause death or serious injury if the safety instructions are not observed or if the
equipment is handled incorrectly.
Potentially fatal voltages occur when this equipment is in operation which can remain present
even after the VFD is switched o.
Ensure that only qualied and trained personnel carry out work on the equipment.
Follow the ve safety rules during each stage of the work.
