LVCS overview
The Low Voltage Current Sensor (LVCS) hardware option is used with external low voltage
current transformers to sense current in each phase of a power feed. Use the LVCS option to:
Measure and monitor individual phases.
Help reduce installation costs for new or retrofitted installations.
Provide non-intrusive load monitoring.
LVCS only works with voltage output Low-Power Current Transformers (LPCTs) and is intended
for use with listed Energy-Monitoring current transformers rated for the application. To use LVCS,
a 9810 LVCS meter is required. See "9810 meter models and accessories" on page 21 for a list of
meters that support LVCS.
LPCT configuration
This section assumes your meter and LPCTs are already installed. For more information related
to installation, refer to the 9810 series LVCS installation guide at www.usa.siemens.com/pds.
This section illustrates two common LPCT configuration scenarios and how they are configured
using ION Setup. You can also configure LPCTs using the meter webpages or display.
Configuration scenario 1: LPCT connected directly to conductor
The LPCT is connected directly to the line to be measured.
LPCT transformation ratio 10A:1V
Meter transformation ratio (default) 1A:1V
Example:
Set the meter CT ratio to 10:1 to match the transformation ratio of the LPCT and report the
conductor primary current.
CT ratio:
= LPCT ratio x Meter ratio
= 10:1 x 1:1
= 10:1
