Overview

The Silver Cross Voyager Co-Sleeper is a versatile baby product designed to function as both a traditional cradle and a bedside co-sleeper, allowing a baby to sleep safely next to an adult bed. The product emphasizes ease of assembly, adjustable features, and safety precautions for both modes of use.

Function Description

The Voyager Co-Sleeper serves two primary functions:

  • Cradle Mode: In this mode, the product functions as a standalone crib, providing a secure and comfortable sleeping environment for the baby. It is designed to be placed on a flat, horizontal floor and can be moved easily thanks to its castors.
  • Bedside Mode: This mode allows the co-sleeper to be securely attached to an adult bed, enabling the baby to sleep alongside the parents. A key feature of this mode is the drop-side, which can be lowered to facilitate easy access to the baby. The co-sleeper's height is adjustable to align with the adult mattress, ensuring there is no gap between the two sleeping surfaces.

The co-sleeper is designed for use from birth until the child can sit, kneel, or pull themselves up, at which point its use should be discontinued.

Usage Features

The Voyager Co-Sleeper incorporates several features to enhance usability and safety:

Assembly

The assembly process begins with the frame, which includes a fixed rail, front rail, legs, and support tubes with a tray. Castors are attached to the legs, allowing for mobility. Leg caps with screws are used to secure certain components. The cot fabrics are then fitted onto the frame, followed by the mattress. Tether straps are provided for securing the co-sleeper in bedside mode. An instruction manual and a storage bag are included for convenience.

Cradle Mode Operation

  1. Fabric Attachment: The cot fabrics are attached to the frame, ensuring they are properly secured.
  2. Mattress Placement: The mattress is placed inside the cot fabrics, forming the sleeping surface.
  3. Height Adjustment: The cradle's height can be adjusted by pressing buttons on the legs and sliding them to the desired position. This allows for multiple height settings to suit various needs.
  4. Castor Locks: The co-sleeper is equipped with castors that have brakes. These brakes must always be applied when the cradle is in use or when the child is left unattended, to prevent unintended movement.
  5. Safety Checks: Before each use, it is crucial to ensure that all parts are correctly assembled and tightened. The baby's head should always be higher than their feet when in the cradle.

Bedside Mode Operation

  1. Drop-Side Activation: To convert to bedside mode, the zip on the sides of the drop-side of the cradle is opened. A button is pressed to release and lower the drop-side. This operation is performed on both sides.
  2. Positioning: The co-sleeper is positioned next to the adult bed, ensuring there is no space between the lower side of the cradle and the adult mattress. The co-sleeper's height is adjusted so that the top of its side is at least 1 cm lower than the height of the adult mattress.
  3. Securing to Adult Bed: The tether straps are fastened to buckles located under the cradle on both sides. These belts are then passed around the frame or base of the adult bed from bottom upwards. The buckles are tightened to form a loop, and the belts are pulled hard to secure the co-sleeper as close as possible to the adult bed. This process is repeated on both sides to ensure a firm attachment.
  4. Continuous Safety Checks: In bedside mode, it is imperative to check the tightness of the securing system before each use by attempting to pull the cradle away from the adult bed. There must never be any space between the lower side of the cradle and the adult mattress. The top rail of the co-sleeper must not be higher than the adult bed mattress to avoid the risk of the child's neck being caught. The attachment system should always be kept away from and out of the crib to prevent strangulation hazards.

Folding

The co-sleeper can be folded for storage or transport. This involves releasing certain mechanisms on the frame and collapsing the structure. The included storage bag facilitates easy carrying and protection when folded.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safety of the Voyager Co-Sleeper:

  • Cleaning the Cradle: The cradle can be cleaned using warm water and soap. Solvents or derivatives should not be used.
  • Metal Parts: Metal parts should be dried thoroughly after cleaning to prevent rust formation.
  • Fabric Care: The fabric cover can be washed by hand in warm water (maximum 30°C) using low-duty detergents suitable for delicate fabrics. Bleach, driers, dry cleaning, and ironing should be avoided. The fabric should be dried flat in the shade.
  • Part Integrity: Regularly inspect all parts for any missing, damaged, or broken components. If any issues are found, contact Silver Cross for replacement parts and instructional literature. Do not substitute parts.
  • Tightening Components: All assembly parts, especially screws, must always be properly tightened to ensure the stability and safety of the co-sleeper. Regularly check that none of the screws are loose.
