Function Description:

The primary function of the 2001-6030 module is to enable voice communication within a fire alarm system. When the microphone's "Push-to-Talk" switch is activated, it temporarily deactivates other audio sources like the tape player and music, as well as all oscillators. This action allows the output signals from the microphone's voice coil cartridge to be transmitted to the 6055 Mike Interface Module, which is located at the system's main panel. This ensures that live voice messages take precedence during an emergency or for general announcements.

The module's operation is governed by specific conditions:

Normal Condition: When the microphone switch is in its released (off) position, any output signals from the voice coil cartridge are shunted through the S1 contacts of the switch. This prevents unintended audio transmission.
Transmit Condition (Microphone Operation): To transmit a voice message in normal system conditions, the user must first remove the microphone from the panel. Then, the OSC STOP switch needs to be set to the "up" position, which inhibits all oscillators and music. Next, either the ALL CIRCUITS switch or specific SPKR CKT switches must be set to the "up" position to activate all or selected system speakers. Finally, pressing the microphone switch initiates voice transmission. This action closes switch S2, sending a -OV signal to Pin P2-1, which energizes relay K1 on the mike interface, causing its contacts (K1A and K1B) to transfer. A +V signal is then sent from TB1-5 (on the mike interface) to the 6053 Supervised Remote Interface Module. Simultaneously, switch S1 opens, allowing the voice coil cartridge's output signals to be fed to TB1-1 and TB1-2 (on the mike interface) via the K1A and K1B Interface Module at the control panel. The procedure is reversed to end transmission. In an alarm condition, steps 2 and 3 (inhibiting oscillators and selecting speakers) can be omitted as the system is already in an alert state.

The 2001-6037 Remote Microphone and Enclosure Module functions similarly, providing remote voice message transmission. It also includes positions for a remote oscillator control module and a remote trouble control module. In its normal state, the microphone switch is released, and voice coil cartridge signals are shunted through S1. Relay K1 on the mike interface is de-energized, while the supervisory relay K1 on the remote enclosure module is energized.

The 2001 Voice Communications System also utilizes tone oscillator modules to generate audio-frequency signals. These modules produce specific tones that are amplified and fed to the system's speakers. The available tone oscillator modules include:

2001-6032: Slow Whoop (tone ascends from 200 to 830 Hz in 2.5 seconds).
2001-6033: Wail (tone ascends and descends from 600 to 900 Hz).
2001-6034: Beep (470-Hz tone).
2001-6035: Horn (continuous 470-Hz tone).
