Installing batteries:
• Remove the safety cover from the battery holder
(if your holder has one) with a screwdriver.
• Insert three (3) 1.5V AA batteries (not included) in the holder.
Be sure to orient the battery “+” as marked in the holder.
• Replace the cover (if your holder had one). When installing
a battery, be sure the spring is compressed straight back,
and not bent up, down, or to one side.
• Battery installation should be supervised by an adult.

Project 1: Flying Saucer
STEP 1
STEP 2
Blast Off!
•Turn on switch.
•When the fan reaches
full speed, turn off the switch.
•The fan should rise and oat
through the air like a ying saucer.
-If the fan doesn’t y off, then turn the switch on
and off several times rapidly when it is at full speed.
ADULT ASISTANCE REQUIRED
Get an adult to help you pry the
motor top off the motor shaft using a
screwdriver or a 2-snap wire, then push
the wheel on the motor shaft.
Project 2: Paper Airplane Launcher
STEP 1
STEP 4 STEP 5
STEP 2 Wheel Install
Batteries: X3
Install three (3) “AA” batteries
(Full battery installation and warnings
located within technical information)
How does the Flying Saucer blast off?
The air is being blown down through the blade and the
motor rotation locks the fan on the shaft. When the motor is
turned off, the blade unlocks from the shaft and is free to act as
a propeller and y through the air. If the speed of rotation is too
slow, the fan will remain on the motor shaft because it does not
have enough lift to propel it. The motor will spin faster when the
batteries are new.
What makes a plane y?
An airplane’s engines propel the plane forward and push air past the wings. The wings have
a special shape which forces the air under the wing. As the plane goes faster this creates higher air
pressure below the wing than above it, which forces the wing and the plane up.
For a paper airplane, the spinning wheel on the motor shaft grabs the plane and propels it forward.
Air moving past the plane’s wings supports the plane in the air. If the paper airplane’s wings were
shaped like those on a real airplane, then the plane could rise in the air.
• Make a paper airplane
(for ideas, search
‘paper airplane design’ on
the internet with your parents)
•Turn S1 switch to ‘on’
•Launch your airplane by gently
pushing the airplane between the
wheels
