Overview

The Soundavo PMX-6600 is a professional audio power management device, functioning as both a power conditioner and a sequencer. It is designed to provide stable power and robust circuit protection for audio systems, making it suitable for home audio, instrument rigs, sound recording studios, and professional audio/DJ equipment with power amplifiers, active speakers, and preamp/mixer applications.

Function Description:

The PMX-6600 offers comprehensive power management with several key functionalities:

  • Power Conditioning: It features multi-stage noise filtering to reduce Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), ensuring clean AC power for all connected components.
  • Power Sequencing: The device implements a 3-stage power-up/power-down system. Outlets are grouped into three zones (Digital, Analog, and High Power Filtered) and powered on sequentially with a 6-second delay between each zone. Power-down occurs in reverse sequence. This sequencing prevents "THUMPS and POPS" by turning power amplifiers ON last and OFF first, and helps manage high inrush currents that could trip circuit breakers or shut down current-limited power supplies.
  • System Monitoring and Alerts: The PMX-6600 includes a voltage meter and amperage meter for real-time analysis of incoming AC line voltage and current draw. LED indicators provide status for grounding/polarity, noise filtering, abnormal voltage, and surge protection. An audio alarm signals unsafe voltage conditions.
  • Surge Protection: Built-in surge protection circuitry safeguards connected equipment from power surges.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 120VAC / 15A MAX
  • Accessory Outlets:
    • 12 Switched outlets (rear panel)
    • 2 Un-Switched convenience outlets (front panel, always on)
    • 2 Switched USB chargers (front panel, 5V/1A each)
  • Dimensions: Width 438mm (19”) x Height 88mm (2U) x Depth 250mm
  • Weight: 6.8+ kg
  • Trigger Input/Output: 12-volt trigger input/output with a bypass switch, allowing control from a control system or other components. DC IN 2~30V for trigger input, DC OUT 12V for trigger output.
  • Circuit Breaker: 15A thermal circuit breaker for overload protection.

Usage Features:

The PMX-6600 provides a user-friendly interface with various controls and indicators:

  • Front Panel:
    • ON/OFF Switch: Controls the sequential power-up/down of the rear panel outlets.
    • Digital LED Meter Display: Shows incoming AC line voltage and amperage.
    • Status LEDs:
      • GROUND OK: Indicates a properly grounded power source.
      • Wiring Fault: Alerts to reversed LINE and NEUTRAL wires.
      • Clean Power On: Confirms clean AC power delivery.
      • Abnormal Voltage: Warns of under/over voltage (greater than 132VAC or less than 90VAC).
      • Protection ON: Verifies correct functioning of surge protection circuitry.
    • Unswitched Convenience Outlets: Two "always on" filtered power outlets.
    • USB Charger: Two 5V/1A USB ports for charging portable electronic devices.
  • Rear Panel:
    • Digital Audio (Switched) Outlets: Four outlets with special filter circuits to reduce AC supply interference for digital components (e.g., MIDI controllers, samplers, CD players) and isolate system noise.
    • Analog Audio Filter (Switched) Outlets: Four outlets with special filter circuits to reduce audible noise in analog components (e.g., audio interfaces, preamps, audio processors, mixer consoles, projectors).
    • High Current Filter (Switched) Outlets: Four outlets with special filter circuits designed for high current components like power amplifiers or active speakers.
    • Gold-Plated Ground Post: Provides a connection point for ungrounded components.
    • Thermal Circuit Breaker: Resettable 15A breaker for overload protection. An LED indicates when the breaker is open.
    • Ultra-High Current AC Power Cable: Integral heavy-duty AC cable for maximum power transfer.
    • Bypass/Remote Switch: Allows selection between front panel ON/OFF control and external 12V trigger control.
      • REMOTE Mode: Requires a 12V trigger signal to activate switched outlets.
      • BYPASS Mode: Disables 12V triggering, allowing the front panel ON/OFF switch to control all switched outlets and USB chargers.
    • Remote Turn On/Off (3.5mm mini-plug):
      • Trigger In: Accepts a DC input (2~30V) from a remote device to initiate startup/shutdown sequencing.
      • Trigger Out: Provides a 12V DC signal to control other equipment or another PMX-6600 device for sequencing.

Maintenance Features:

  • Circuit Breaker: The resettable thermal circuit breaker protects the unit from overload. If tripped, allow 10 minutes before resetting.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as no power, components not receiving power, and humming/buzzing noises from speakers.
  • Safety Instructions: Emphasizes important safety guidelines including proper grounding, avoiding moisture and heat, protecting the power cord, and referring all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Damage Requiring Service: Clearly lists conditions that necessitate professional repair, such as damaged power cords, liquid spills, or abnormal operation.
  • Cleaning: The unit should only be cleaned with a dry cloth.

The PMX-6600 is designed for durability and ease of use in professional audio environments, ensuring reliable power delivery and protection for sensitive equipment. The sequential power-up and advanced filtering capabilities contribute to a cleaner, safer, and more efficient audio system operation.
