Overview

The Spirit Strawman is an animated Halloween prop designed for indoor or covered porch use, featuring lights, sound, and animation. It is intended for decorative purposes and is suitable for individuals 15 years of age and older.

Function Description:

The Strawman prop is designed to create a spooky atmosphere with its animated movements, sound effects, and lighting. It can be activated in three different modes:

  • Sensor Mode: In this mode, the prop activates its lights, sound, and animation when its Infra-red (IR) sensor detects movement. The IR sensor has a range of up to 2 meters (6.5 feet) and can detect movement within an 80-degree angle from left-to-right, as well as from above and below. Once triggered, it operates for one audio cycle.
  • "I" On Mode: This setting allows the prop to operate continuously, with its lights, sound, and animation running without interruption.
  • "O" Off/"Try Me" Mode: This mode requires an external trigger, such as a Step Pad or Try Me Button (sold separately), to activate the prop. When triggered, it operates for one audio cycle.

The prop includes a volume control dial on the Function Control Box, allowing users to adjust the sound level or turn it off completely.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • AC Adapter: Input: 100-240V AC 50/60Hz; Output: 5.9V 2.0A.
  • IR Sensor Range: Up to 2 meters (6.5 feet).
  • IR Sensor Detection Angle: 80 degrees (left-to-right, above-to-below).
  • External Speaker Compatibility: Supports external speakers with an impedance of 8 ohms only.
  • Battery Adapter (Optional): Requires 4 D batteries.

Usage Features:

The Strawman prop is assembled from various components, including a base, poles, a body frame, boots, foam tubes, arms, a head, and dressing elements like a collar, shirt, hat, and rope belt. The assembly process involves connecting these parts using quick connect push buttons and pre-drilled holes, ensuring all cables are connected by color and shape to the Function Control Box.

Optional accessories enhance the prop's functionality:

  • Step Pad or Try Me Button: These accessories (SKU #01181288 and #01405943, sold separately) can be connected to the "TRY ME" jack on the Function Control Box to activate the prop in "O" Off/"Try Me" mode.
  • External Speaker: An external speaker (sold separately) can be connected to the "SPEAKER" jack on the Function Control Box to amplify the prop's sound.
  • Multi-Prop Remote: This system allows for remote activation of the prop. It involves connecting a transponder to the "TRY ME" jack and using a matching remote button to trigger the prop.
  • Battery Adapter: For portable power, a battery adapter (sold separately) can be used. It requires 4 D batteries and connects to the 5.9V 2.0A adapter port on the Function Control Box.

Maintenance Features:

  • Storage: For best performance and longevity, the prop should be operated indoors or on a covered porch. When not in use, it should be stored in its original packaging, away from heat and moisture.
  • Power Adapter: Only the transformer supplied by the manufacturer should be used.
  • Assembly: The prop must be assembled according to the instructions, ensuring all wires are connected correctly by matching color.
  • Safety: Children should be supervised when around the prop, as it can be a tipping hazard if grabbed. All plastic and wire parts should be kept away from children. The transformer heats up during operation, so it should be handled with care.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Ensure the prop is assembled on a flat surface.
    • Use only the power adapter that came with the item.
    • Verify that all cables are securely connected, as color-coded cables can affect function if not connected correctly.
  • IR Sensor Performance: The infrared sensor's distance is affected by ambient temperature. It will detect movement farther when body temperature (98.6° F) is significantly different from the ambient air temperature, and shorter when the temperatures are close.
  • Environmental Considerations: Avoid using the prop in environments with strong air currents from windows, air conditioning, or outlets. The IR sensor should not face direct heat sources like heaters.
  • Battery Installation (for optional Battery Adapter): Battery installation should be performed by an adult. Only recommended batteries should be used, and mixing old/new, alkaline/rechargeable/standard, or different types of batteries is not advised. Batteries must be inserted with correct polarity. Exhausted batteries should be removed. Rechargeable batteries should only be charged under adult supervision and removed from the prop before charging. Non-rechargeable batteries should not be recharged. The supply terminals should not be short-circuited.

FCC Compliance:

The device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules, meaning its operation is subject to two conditions: it must not cause harmful interference, and it must accept any interference received. Users are cautioned that changes or modifications not expressly approved by the responsible party could void their authority to operate the equipment. The equipment has been tested and found to comply with Class B digital device limits, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. If interference occurs, users are encouraged to try corrective measures such as reorienting the receiving antenna, increasing separation between equipment and receiver, or connecting the equipment to a different circuit.
