Overview

The Spruce RV Series fan is an inline fan designed for commercial and residential ventilation, promoting a healthier environment. These fans are suitable for general ventilation, bathroom venting, fresh air supply, duct boosting, and building pressurization. However, they are not suitable for dryer duct venting or kitchen range hood venting.

Function Description:

The RV Series fans are designed to move air through ductwork, exhausting air from an indoor space to the outdoors. They are intended for use in applications where air quality and moisture control are important. The fans can be integrated into various ducting systems and are designed for continuous duty operation.

Usage Features:

  • Mounting Flexibility: The fan can be mounted at an angle, though vertical mounting (as shown in Fig. 1) is highly recommended to prevent condensation accumulation. For horizontal mounting where condensation is likely, mounting the fan 30 degrees beyond horizontal (as shown in Fig. 3) is suggested.
  • Ducting Recommendations: Any type of ducting is acceptable, but flexible nonmetallic ducting is recommended for quiet and easy installation. Insulated flexible ducting is highly recommended in cold climates to prevent condensation. The fan outlet should always be ducted to the outside, not into an attic.
  • Quiet Operation: For optimal quietness, the fan should be mounted at least 10 feet away from the intake grille(s) and closer to the outside vent.
  • Multi-Intake Systems: Multiple venting points can be connected using "T" or "Y" fittings.
  • Backdraft Dampers: Highly recommended at each intake grille, especially in cold climates, to prevent cold/hot drafts and minimize condensation/icing when the fan is not operating.
  • Electrical Connection: Requires 120 VAC connection. Wiring must be performed by qualified personnel according to all applicable codes (NFPA "National Electrical Code, Standard #70") and standards. A Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) circuit may be required depending on local codes. Exterior electrical boxes must be outdoor rated and sealed, with a weep hole recommended.

Maintenance Features:

  • No User Serviceable Parts: The fan unit contains no user serviceable parts. Users are explicitly warned not to attempt to open the unit. Any servicing or repairs should be handled by returning the unit to the factory.
  • Pre-Service Disconnection: Before any servicing or cleaning, power must be switched off at the service panel and locked out to prevent accidental re-energization.
  • Non-Operational Storage: The fan should not be left installed on system piping without electrical power for more than 48 hours, as this can lead to fan failure.
  • Warranty: A five-year warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship from the date of manufacture. For claims within the first 30 days, Spruce will replace the fan. After 30 days and through the warranty term, Spruce will recondition or replace the fan at its option. Warranty claims require an RMA number from Spruce.
  • Installation Contingency: The warranty is contingent on proper installation according to the provided instructions and does not cover damage from abuse, misuse, unauthorized repairs, or shipping damage not due to Spruce's negligence.
