Overview

The document describes the Legacy II Outdoor Stair Lift Model SL19, an accessibility device manufactured by Staying Home Corporation, designed to assist individuals in navigating staircases.

Function Description:

The Legacy II Outdoor Stair Lift Model SL19 is an electrically powered chair lift system designed for outdoor use, enabling individuals to safely ascend and descend stairs. It operates by moving a chair along a track installed parallel to the staircase. The lift is intended for "normal use," defined as operation by a single individual within the maximum capacity specified on the unit's data tag, following the guidelines and instructions provided in the manual. The system is equipped with safety features to ensure secure operation, including obstruction sensors, a seat belt, and automatic stopping mechanisms at the top and bottom of the track. It also features wireless key fobs for remote operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: The lift operates on batteries, which are under warranty for 1 year. The warranty is void if prolonged power outages or external factors prevent the charger from charging the batteries, or if the battery charger is not protected within an enclosure.
  • Warranty Periods:
    • Batteries: 1 year
    • Parts (excluding batteries): 2 years
    • Drive Train: 3 years (The drive train is defined as the motor, gear, track, and gear rack.)
  • Battery Voltage Monitoring: The lift features a troubleshooting indicator that signals low battery voltage (under 22.5 volts) with a yellow pulse and very low battery voltage (under 20.5 volts for 5 minutes) when the LED display is OFF (SLEEP).
  • Overload Protection: The system is designed to detect overload, indicated by a RED SOLID LED and a 3-second beep if the current exceeds 22 amps for 3 seconds.
  • Safety Sensors:
    • Seat Swivel Latch Sensor: Indicated by 2 YELLOW FLASHES and a 1/2 second beep. The unit will not run until the seat is facing forward and locked into position.
    • Footrest Obstruction Sensor: Indicated by 3 YELLOW FLASHES and a 1/2 second beep. This sensor prevents the lift from running uphill if the footrest encounters an object, but allows downhill movement to clear the obstruction.
    • Sensor Fault: Indicated by 2 RED FLASHES and a 3-second beep if two or more sensors are engaged.
  • Overspeed Governor: If the overspeed governor is set, it is indicated by 5 RED FLASHES and a 1/2 second beep (30 seconds).
  • Key Fob Battery: The wireless key fobs use a 2032 battery.
  • Operational Voltage: The system indicates a power-up cycle with a RED-YELLOW-GREEN LED and a 1-second beep. It is ready to operate with a SOLID GREEN LED.

Usage Features:

  • Controls: The lift is operated by a button that must be held down throughout the ride. It stops automatically at the track ends.
  • Swivel Seat: The seat has levers on each side that allow it to swivel towards the top landing, locking at 85° for safe entry and exit. The lift will not operate unless the seat is locked in the forward position.
  • Wireless Key Fobs: Handheld radio frequency controls allow remote operation of the lift without being on it.
  • Seat Belt: A seat belt is provided for user safety during travel.
  • Reset Switch: If the lift fails to run, a reset switch can be toggled off for 5 seconds and then back on.
  • Normal Operation: Small bumps and slight vibrations are normal during the first 30 days of use.
  • Safety Guidelines:
    • Always use armrests for stability when getting on and off.
    • Sit back in the chair and fasten the seat belt before operating.
    • Keep feet flat and centered on the footrest; never hang them over the edge.
    • Never operate the lift while standing up or with more than one person.
    • Keep the staircase clear of obstructions and do not operate if someone is on the stairs.
    • Do not carry pets or large items on your lap.
    • Cover the lift with the provided weather-resistant cover when not in use.
  • Troubleshooting Indicator: A chassis-mounted 3-color LED display light and an audible alarm provide real-time status and fault indications, such as battery charge status, sensor engagement, and overload conditions.

Maintenance Features:

  • Track Maintenance: The track must be kept free of leaves and other foreign objects to ensure proper operation.
  • Cleaning: The track and metal parts can be cleaned with general household cleaner. The vinyl seat can be cleaned with vinyl-specific cleaners. The copper charge strips inside the track at each end should be cleaned with a Scotch-Brite pad to ensure good contact for charging.
  • Lubrication: A light coat of lithium grease or all-purpose lubricant should be applied to the gear rack every 3 months or as needed. If a "squeal" is heard, a light coat of lubrication can be applied to the outside, vertical portion of the track where the rollers are located, to eliminate friction.
  • Weather Resistant Cover: A cover is provided to protect the lift from the elements when not in use.
  • Battery Replacement (Key Fob): The 2032 battery in the key fob needs to be replaced periodically.
  • Battery Charger: The battery charger is not weather-resistant and must be placed inside a weather-resistant enclosure.
  • Professional Service: All warranty claims must be reported to the dealer from whom the lift was purchased. The dealer is responsible for contacting the Service Department of Staying Home Corporation. Labor, service, travel, and associated repair costs are not covered by the Limited Warranty. Only genuine Staying Home Corporation parts must be used for warranty coverage. Purchasers are advised not to attempt repairs themselves before contacting the dealer or factory.
  • Serial Number: The serial number, located on the chassis of the lift, is crucial for warranty services and must be retained. The Company will not offer warranty service without it.
