Groove in bottom of crankcase
- Apply a thin bead of sealant
to groove in bottom of
crankcase, see 11.2.
Note: Please follow the
manufacturer's instructions for
using the sealant.
- Fit and press on the bottom
of the crankcase.
- Wait approximately one
minute, then turn over
crankshaft several times.
Installation continues in reverse
order of removal.
Note: Tighten crankcase mounting
screws to 10 Nm.
Defective oil seals and gaskets or
cracks in the castings are the
usual causes of leaks. Such
faults allow supplementary air to
enter the engine and thus upset
the fuel-air mixture.
This makes adjustment of the
prescribed idle speed difficult,
if not impossible.
Moreover, the transition from
idle speed to part or full throttle
is not smooth.
The crankcase can be checked
thoroughly for leaks with the
carburetor and crankcase
tester and the vacuum pump.
