Do you have a question about the STRANDS S-30 ME and is the answer not in the manual?
This document is a multi-language instruction manual for Strands S-30 ME and S-30 drilling machines, covering operation, maintenance, and spare parts. The languages included are Swedish, English, and German.
The Strands S-30 ME and S-30 are drilling machines designed for various drilling operations. The S-30 ME model offers additional features, specifically related to feed rate control and tailstock spindle feed. Both models feature a robust construction with a drill head, a column, a table arm, and a base.
Spindle Speed Controls (No. 1) The machines are equipped with two knobs that allow the selection of six different spindle speeds. Combined with a two-speed motor, this provides a total of 12 spindle speeds in a geometric series, ranging from 65 to 2,800 RPM. To change speeds, the motor must be stopped, and turning the spindle nose can facilitate the change.
Feed Rate Control (S-30 ME Only) (No. 2) The S-30 ME model features a knob for selecting four different feed rates, ranging from 0.08 to 0.30 mm per turn. The feed rate can be changed while the machine is running. If the motor is stationary, turning knob No. 3 (Fine Feed Control) can assist in changing the feed rate.
Fine Feed Control (No. 3) This handwheel is used for manual fine feeding of the spindle. To activate this, control No. 2 must be set to neutral, and pushbutton control No. 9 must be pressed to engage the feed mechanism.
Setscrews for Adjustment of Tailstock Spindle Play (No. 4) The drill head features three screws for adjusting the tailstock spindle play. The top and bottom screws are locking screws, while the middle screw is the locating screw. To adjust, loosen the locking screws, then tighten the locating screw to eliminate play or lock the spindle (e.g., for milling). Afterward, retighten the locking screws.
Light Switch (No. 5) A dedicated switch is provided for turning the machine's illumination on and off.
Spindle Start-Stop Control (No. 6) This control offers multiple functions:
Drillhead Locking Control (No. 7) To lock the drill head, turn the handle approximately 180° clockwise. To release it, turn the crank counter-clockwise.
Tool Release (No. 8) To remove a tool from the spindle cone:
Tailstock Spindle Feed Control (S-30 ME Only) (No. 9) For mechanical tailstock spindle feed, press button 1. To stop the feed, press button 0 or use the automatic stop set by control No. 11. Note: The power must be switched on for tailstock spindle feed (see No. 13).
Drillhead Raise and Lower Control (No. 10) To move the drill head up or down, insert the crank and turn it as indicated by the symbols (downward arrow for lowering, upward arrow for raising).
Depth of Feed Control (No. 11) The desired drilling depth is set by turning a screw and reading the scale on the front panel. A locating knob is used to lock the screw in position to retain the setting.
Table Arm Clamp (No. 12) To clamp the table arm, turn the handle approximately 180° clockwise. To release it, turn counter-clockwise.
Motor Protection (S-30) / Main Power to Emergency Stop (S-30 ME) (No. 13) This switch serves as an emergency stop, master switch, and overload protection.
Hand Feed Control, Tailstock Spindle (No. 14) This refers to the manual feeding of the tailstock spindle.
Table Clamp (No. 15) To clamp the table, turn clockwise. To release, turn counter-clockwise.
Table Arm Raise and Lower Control (No. 16) To raise or lower the table arm, turn clockwise for clamping and counter-clockwise for releasing.
Lubrication Instructions (SMÖRJNINGSINSTRUKTIONER)
The manual includes detailed spare parts lists with diagrams for the spindle gearing, spindle-dock-feed, and table arm and column. Each part is identified by an article number, name (in Swedish, English, and German), and type designation. Green-marked items in the diagrams indicate parts that are currently in stock, while others are discontinued.
