COMPRESSOR MAINTENANCE
AND TROUBLESHOOTING
31
9.1 INTRODUCTION
WARNING
!
Before doing compressor or dryer maintenance,
disconnect compressor from power source and
lock out power source. Isolate compressor/dryer
fromline pressure by closing recommendeddis-
charge shut---off valve and releasing all internal
pressure from compressor/dryer.
As you proceed in reading this section, it will be
easy to see that the maintenance program for t he
air compressor is quite minimal. The Supervisor II
monitorsthestatusoftheseparatorelement.When
maintenancetot hisdeviceisrequired, theSupervi-
sor II will display the appropriate maintenance
message and flash the location LED on the graph-
ics map as a visual reminder. See instructions for
each item in Section 9.6, Parts Replacement and
Adjustment Procedures.
WARNING
!
DO NOT remove caps, plugs, and/or other com-
ponents whencompressorisrunningorpressur -
ized.
Stop compressor and relieve all internal pres-
sure before doing so.
9.2 DAILY OPERATION
Prior to starting the compressor, it is necessary to
check the fluid level in the sump. Should the level
be low, simply add the necessary amount. If t he
addition of fluid becomes too frequent, a minor
problem has developed w hich is causing this ex -
cessive loss. See the Troubleshooting---Compres-
sorsectionunderExcessiveFluidConsumptionfor
a probable cause and remedy.
After a routine s tart has been made, a general
checkoftheoverallcompressorshouldbemadet o
assure that the compressor is running properly.
9.3 MOTOR BEARING LUBRICATION
WARNING
!
Before doing compressor/dryer maintenance,
disconnect compressor from power source and
lock out power source. Isolate compressor/dryer
fromline pressure by closing recommendeddis-
charge shut---off valve and releasing all internal
pressure from compressor/dryer.
See motor manufacturer’s lubrication instructions.
9.4 FLUID FILTER MAINTENANCE
WARNING
!
Fluid filter has internal by pass. DO NOT SUBSTI -
TUTE.
Replacethe fluid filterelement under any of the fol-
lowing conditions:
1. As recommended in the Lubrication Guide in t he
Specification Section.
2. Every year.
3. Every fluid change.
9.5 COOLER MAINTENANCE
If cooler becomes restricted, use standard spray
degreaser/cleaner and brush to clean cooler. Use
airpressuretoblowcoolerclean.Caremustbetak-
en as not to damage cooler fins.
WARNING
!
Before doing compressor/dryer maintenance,
disconnect compressor from power source and
lock out power source. Isolate compressor/dryer
fromline pressure by closing recommendeddis-
charge shut---off valve and releasing all internal
pressure from compressor/dryer.
9.6 PARTS REPLACEMENT AND ADJUSTMENT
PROCEDURES
WARNING
!
Before doing compressor/dryer maintenance,
disconnect compressor from power source and
lock out power source. Isolate compressor/dryer
fromline pressure by closing recommendeddis-
charge shut---off valve and releasing all internal
pressure from compressor/dryer.
RELIEF VALVE
Checkt he reliefvalvea t leastweeklytoseethat itis
functional. DO NOT tamper with the preset factory
pressure setting of the valve. DO NOT plug the
valve for any reason; should it leak, have it re-
placed.
