This document is a user's manual and parts book for the Fortuna AC Servo Motor series IV, manufactured by SunStar Machinery Co., Ltd. The manual is version 03 and carries the ISO 9001 certification for quality systems.
Function Description:
The Fortuna AC Servo Motor series IV is an industrial servo motor designed for use with industrial sewing machines. It provides precise control over the sewing machine's operation, offering enhanced durability and sophisticated design to meet various user needs. The motor is intended for industrial purposes only and should not be used for other applications.
Important Technical Specifications:
The manual provides information on the power source requirements for the motor. It is desirable that the voltage of the power source be kept within a range of ±10% of the rated voltage, and the frequency within ±10% of the rated frequency (50/60Hz). The motor is designed to operate normally under these conditions.
The controller box specifications include:
- Model: AC SERVO SERIES 4
- Power: V 50/60Hz
- Current: 3.0A
- IP: 40
- Serial No.: (blank)
The manual also details fuse specifications for replacement:
- F1: 250V/15A [65TL/31.8mm]
- F2: 250V/15A [65TL/31.8mm]
- F3: 250V/1A [50T/20mm]
- F4: 250V/6.3A [50T/20mm]
The device can be wired for single phase 100V~120V, single phase 200V~240V, and three phase 200V~240V, with specific wiring diagrams provided. The manual emphasizes the use of wiring materials that can withstand an electric current higher than 15A.
Solenoid voltage settings are crucial for proper operation and depend on the input voltage. For a solenoid with a rating current of 30V:
- Input Voltage < 210V: J20
- 210V-230V: J19
-
230V: J18
For a solenoid with a rating current of 24V:
- Input Voltage < 180V: J20
- 180V-190V: J19
-
190V: J18
For a solenoid with a rating current of 30V (input voltage: 110V):
- Input Voltage < 100V: J20
- 100V-120V: J19
-
120V: J18
For a solenoid with a rating current of 24V (input voltage: 110V):
- Input Voltage < 90V: J20
- 90V-100V: J19
-
100V: J18
Usage Features:
The Fortuna AC Servo Motor is designed for ease of use, but proper installation and operation are critical.
Installation:
- Controller Attachment: The controller box should be attached to the lower right of the table with 15mm fixing screws.
- Pedal Unit Attachment: The pedal unit bracket is attached to the underside of the table with 15mm fixing screws. The pedal unit should be fixed to the area where the bar linked to the pedal is attached to the table leg, ensuring it becomes vertical.
- Knee Lifter Solenoid Installation: For SunStar KM-2300 Sewing Machine, assemble the ornamental panel of the knee lifter solenoid on the back of the KM-2300 back. Attach the knee lifter solenoid on bracket A, then attach bracket A fixed on the knee lifter solenoid. After attaching the crank on the solenoid shaft, connect to the machine. Put the cover over the solenoid and connect the grounding cable.
- Position Detector (Synchronizer) and Adjusting Film Installation:
- Synchronizer is attached on the machine upon shipment.
- When changing and fixing the synchronizer, refer to the manual.
- Setting Needle Bar Up/Down-Stop Position (KM-2300Series, SC-7300Series): Fortuna Series IV allows a user to set up/down stop position using program units without changing the setting of the synchronizer.
- To set needle bar up-down stop position using the optional program unit:
- Turn on the down-stop icon lamp by pressing the needle bar up/down-stop button on the program unit.
- When the up-stop lamp turns on, press the needle bar up/down-stop button. The display shows information on the setting target and the current position of the needle bar.
- Turn the pulley forward manually to move the needle bar to the desired position. The screen displays the changing position of the needle bar.
- When the needle bar moves to the desired position, save the position by pressing the
ENTER key. The screen automatically returns to the initial screen with a buzzer.
- To return to the initial screen, press the
PAUSE button without pressing ENTER. The ENTER button will not save reset values.
- To set needle bar up/down-stop position using the simple controller board (front OP):
- Turn on the up-stop icon lamp by pressing the needle bar up/down-stop button on the simple controller board.
- When the up-stop lamp turns on, press the "E" button. The display shows the current position of the needle bar.
- The operator turns the pulley forward manually to move the needle bar to the desired position. The screen displays the changing position of the needle bar.
- When the needle bar moves to the desired position, save the position by pressing the "C" key. The screen automatically returns to the initial screen with a buzzer.
- To return to the initial screen, press the "E" button without pressing "C". The "C" button will not save reset values.
- To set needle bar down stop position, press the needle bar up-down stop button of the simple controller board to make the icon lamp of the needle bar up stop.
- When the down stop lamp is on, press the "E" button. The number pointing to the current needle bar position will blink.
- Turn the pulley forward manually to move the needle bar to the desired position. The screen displays the changing position of the needle bar.
- When the needle bar moves to the desired position, save the position by pressing the "C" key. Then, the screen automatically returns to the initial screen with a buzzer.
- To return to the initial screen, press the "E" button without pressing "C". The "C" button will not save reset values.

Precautions before use:
- Do not turn on the power while stepping on the pedal.
- Turn off the power when leaving the servomotor overnight.
- Turn off the power when servicing the servomotor or changing the needle.
- Ensure the servomotor is securely grounded.
- Do not connect multiple servomotor power plugs to the same power strip.
- Install the servomotor away from noise sources, such as high-frequency equipment and welding machines.
- Avoid electrical shock when servicing the controller box. Wait for at least 6 minutes after turning off the power before opening the cover.
- If an "Er" message appears on the digital display, note the code, then turn the power on and off before resuming operation. If the "Er" message persists, contact the local dealer.
- Clean the controller box every two or three weeks to prevent dust buildup.
- When replacing fuses, use a standard item as shown in the diagram.
- Make the length of the cable connected with outside parts like the stand-up pedal as short as possible.
Things to be checked after installation:
- Before Power On:
- Verify that the incoming voltage is in accordance with the nameplate of the Control box.
- Check all connections.
- Check that the fixing nuts for the pulley are tightly fastened.
- Check that the sewing machines are the right kind (Chain Stitch S/M, Lock Stitch S/M).
- Check the rated voltage for the Solenoid (Refer to "How to change the electric voltage supplied for Solenoid").
- After Power On:
- Check if the program unit is working.
- Check the direction of rotation of the Sewing Machine. If the direction of rotation is not right, action shall be taken to change the setting, referring to "the methods of changing the program and the list of changing functions (N. 65 in Group "A")".
- Check for abnormal heat, smell, or noise nearby. If any, turn off the power and call the regional office.
Maintenance Features:
- Service and maintenance should be carried out by a skilled technician.
- Never try to operate with the Motor and the Controller open.
- When inserting a thread into or touching the machine, be sure to turn the power off and step down from the platform.
- Be sure to use standard products specified for replacement of parts.
- Disassembly:
- When disassembling, wait at least 360 seconds after pulling the plug off the power source and turning it off before taking any action.
- When pulling off the plug from the power source, hold the plug itself instead of the wire connected to the plug.
The manual emphasizes that the instructions presented are for safer and more proper operation of the Fortuna Servo Motor. Ignoring these instructions could cause damage to the machine or physical injury to the user.
