THE DERAILLEUR GEAR SYSTEM
The gear system on your bicycle consists of:
• A rear cluster (freewheel) which is attached
to the rear wheel.
• A rear derailleur which moves the chain
across the cluster to change the gear ratio.
• A front derailleur which moves the chain
between the front chain rings to change the
gear ratio.
• Gear levers which, when moved, change
the gears.
• Control cables which attach the gear levers
to both the front and rear derailleurs.
• A chain.
